Thinking about making the seats fold forward. It could be done without springs I guess. Utilizing a hinge design like that of a door hinge. Solid cold roll steel for the pin. And some heavy duty pipe for the hinge but would be kinda unsightly.
But then comes the design for the rear of the seat. Here I guess you could utilize a similar design and hinge a hook to mate to the existing pocket in the floor. Without spring assistance though I would worry the lever would move and cause a loose condition on the rear of the seat. Which in turn puts stress on the front.
Ok I’m coming up with a way to make them flip forward and still solidly Mount in the back. Instead of using the pocket in the floor since not all trucks had them.
Basically the same design but the hinge will be where there angled tubing meets the front uprights.
A bar will be added to the rear on the floor. This is where the top half will meet the bottom half. There a lever can be used to lock it solid and keep it from moving.
So basically the seat brackets will be two pieces. One piece mounts in the rear and one mounts in the front. I’ll draw a picture here shortly.
I’m going to be working on a set this week. I fiddled around with the design a bit and came up with something cool. Instead of having a large lever I’m going to use some pull handles on a spring. That will lock automatically when folded down. The handles will be welded together so it locks on both sides of the rear with a dowel. When you pull one handle it opens both to allow the seat to fold forward. Handle will be on the door side of each bracket.
Before I start fabricating anything I needed a good table.
Got this 1/2” plate today. Weighs about 700 LBS
Need to get my oxy/ace filled tomorrow so I can cut the table out. Table will be 25.5” x 70”
About 3.5” hung over from the table base you can see.
This side is pitted bad but the other side it clean. Will make a super durable fab bench I can build some jigs on to make processes easier. Decided to weld the table base on to the plate since I need to hit all 4 sides with the oxy/ace torch and hope it holds a flat shape.
