I never before had to remove the bulkhead connector in the engine bay on the engine side of the firewall. But I have to now. It looked like there was only one screw in the middle, which I unscrewed. I tried to pull it off but it didn't seen to wanna budge. I was afraid to muscle it out of fear of breaking something. The manual does not show how to remove it. Does it come off by just removing that screw? Thanks

Mine was packed with some stuff that was like asphalt. Maybe it was just really old grease, but I used carb cleaner to clean some of that off before I pried it apart.

Goop is NYK anti corrosion compound.

This is what I use, Truck-Lite 97944 NYK-77 Compound (2 Oz. Tube, Corrosion Preventive Compound For Electrical Contacts, Switches, And Junction Boxes) https://a.co/d/b5k0060

What are you doing in the connection?

I am replacing the engine wiring harness. That connector is the last thing holding it on the truck. Thanks all, I really appreciate your help.

You guys were certainly right. It came off with a firm pull. Now I am wondering how to get the front and rear harnesses out of the assembly, in a manner that allows reassembly into the replacement harness (i.e.: not breaking anything). My alternated info source (Youtube) does not seem to have any relevant videos. It looks like each harness has a cap that holds the harness in. So far I haven't been able to figure out how to disassemble it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That big plug is actually 3 separate harness plugs puzzle pieced / clipped together, you can see the divisions when you look at the plug side.

You'll see clips made on those caps that will allow you to remove them. Once the caps are off there are similar clips that hold the 2 smaller harness to the biggest plug. As you look at the plug from the front when it's all installed the left harness bundle is the biggest part and it has a "C" shaped body, the 2 smaller harness plugs on the side towards the fender will unclip and slide out of the "C" shaped body.
