I have a 98 Silverado 4x4 and a 73 El Camino. I was thinking of putting the 73 front bumper on the 98. It's a more heavy duty bumper and think it would look good. Anybody ever attempted anything like this? And insight greatly appreciated. I've never tried this kind of swap before.

Merging a bumper from a '73 Elky and '98 truck is not going to be easy. '73 bumpers were the the first with the 5mph crash rating, complete with absorbing shocks in the mount. If you have some fabrication ability and tools anything is possible. The old bumper will not bolt on. I'm not sure if the widths are similar or not.

Unfortunately, I've never seen anybody pull off the swap. So you'll be the first.

Yes just got the factory specs on the Elk 73 I'm going to draft it up, I'm a Machinist/Fabrication by trade, and have Body Shop experience too, so yeah I'm probably going to have to do some fab work. I still have to work out dimensions. My dad passed away last Oct and it was his truck so I'm wanting to customize it up. My 1st car was a 73 Elk that my dad gave me. Just pondering some ideas. So I appreciate the input. Thanks
