Hey,
Just installed some 6 inch tuff country ezride fronts with a one inch add a leaf installed in the center hole. Ride awesome compared to the pro comps. BUT the bump steer is horrible. I have the skyjacker dropped pitman arm, and the pro comp raised steering arm. The drag link is almost level with the ground, maybe about 3-4 degrees downward from the steering box.
I did some searching and most of my findings were "go to crossover steering" and maybe possibly there is a better drag link angle that i could try. Im considering x-over as a resort after i have tried everything with the stock steering and im still not happy with it. Are there any things i can try with the drag link? Another thing i have noticed is when the truck isnt moving and i turn the wheel the springs move about 5/8s of an inch forward and backward due to flex. Is there anything i can do to stop this like some kind of a forward/reverse axle support?
To try to bandaid the problem so far i have adjusted my shocks all the way stiff and connected the sway bar. Both helped slightly.
Any more suggestions? The whole reason im hesitant with x-over is cause i cant get any good deals on parts through ord, and i dont know of any other reputable companies that sell a x-over setup that i can obtain without markup through about 2-3 different places.
Anyways, all comments welcome, thanks in advance.

your springs should flatten and move the shackle out as the spring compresses. pretty much the stock steering was designed for stock suspension.... have you checked out north west fab's crossover kit?

All I can say is that when I installed my 4" Tuff Country springs my bump steer was horrible until I used a drop pitman arm. A raised steering arm came with the kit but made my drag link angle wrong (it was completely horizontal) which caused the bump steer. The drop pitman arm made my drag link angle sort of follow the angle of the spring (angled down towards the back) and that got rid of my bump steer completely.

so anyways, i pulled my 2 inch dropped pitman arm, and replaced it with the stock. Now my drag link is tilted down a hair more than the spring. Took it for a drive, now better, but still pretty wandery. I have brand new everything. Ball joints to steering box. Toe is at 0. The tires measure 37 inches on the truck. (im pushin it, i know). Also, its got the "step on the brakes go one way and gas goes the other way" syndrome. Is this is the bump steer except the chassis movement is causing the steering? correct if im wrong. Do all you folks deal with this crap, or is that why everybody does the crossover?

toe in the tires some. that will help. chassis movement and bump steer are the same thing. as the distance between the trucks frame and axle changes your draglink pushes or pulls on the steering arm.

yes, this is why everyone goes to crossover. its expensive but worth every penny. its only your life and the lives of everyone else on the road we are talking about.
