Burb chop down.

I'll get you a picture when the crap is on my roof, hahaha.

I'm taking a beer and crackers break.

And I am looking around my house for a brush....

Gimme, ummmmm 20 minutes, and I'll have a few pictures for you.

hahaha, fiberglass. I found some woven fiber glass at crappy tire a while back, and decided to use that instead shaping steel.

This is my one and hopefully only short cut.

Later on I'll pick up a torch, and give a try at shaping a proper cap.

I am hoping the first picture shows how the fiberglass is woven. I usually run into that fiberglass mat stuff.

I am hoping to dear god that this stuff id better then that other stuff.

The second picture shows the fiberglass on the roof. I use wax paper to prep the fiberglass. It easier to paint the epoxy crap on it when the stuff is flat. plus it is easier to manuver around that way.

Usually the wax paper comes right off, but sometimes it kinda rips, and stay on there...

Nice work. We're all watching you. No pressure. :D

:haha:Thanks man, that puts me at ease:haha:

Well I got the driver side rear wheel well filled in (kinda) I have two pictures of that, and the fiberglass is hard now too.

Now the real question is, do I do another coat of fiberglass now? or later?

I want two coats so I can be sure it will be strong enough to hold up to whatever I throw at it.

In regards to fiberglass, if you want it strong you want to use a combination of the mat and the woven stuff. Put the mat on the bottom and use woven cloth on top. Use as little resin as possible as the cloth is what provides rigidity. Your project looks pretty darn cool man!

DAMNIT!!!

okay, well I want the roof done right, so maybe I can peel it back up again...

Because I layed down the woven first, and used a BUTTLOAD of resin...

jeez louis.

hopefully you wont have much body flex or the glass might pop.

there is a place off barton called hailton fiberglass suply (great name eh?) they have stuff that is WAY better then crappy tire stuff, I'll give you there number tomorrow. can wait to see it.

oh yeah i need your addy :D

You may have to also invest in a resin epoxy that allows your fiberglass to bond with metal other wise it will pop first flex that happens. Theres a place out here that specializes in that stuff, if you would like me to find out for you how to get fiberglass to bond with metal I can run it by them. They may even have a web site. Its called S&W plastics. If you don't mind me askin, why the fiberglass? Wouldn't sheet metal work out a little better?

I am actually asking myself the same question...

I just want to drive the damned truck.

And the fiberglass will get me past inspection, and is easier to perform.

But I think I may just rip it out, and go sheet metal....

hey Chris I got you a brown dash pad if you want it cracked pretty good but not too horrible, good for what ever cover you want to figger out.

as long as the steel beneath is still usuable. I am totally down. hahaha.

It may be a while before I can pick it up though. I need to wait 2-3 weeks for my first paycheque:doah:

If ya gotta get it through inspection leave it as is have it inspected then rip dat shi** out and weld some pannels on. :) I head you on driving the damned truck, but the time you take now to do some of the things right may save you a headache later down the line.

Yeah, I think I am lust gonna rip it off, and do sheet metal....

Because I know I won't find out about the fiberglass letting go of the roof until it starts raining. And I'll probably have something expensive, and not water freindly in the back aswell....
