what i have

89 1/2ton burb with 10 bolt 6lug 30 spl axle 3.73 gears 31x10.5 tire

other axles available to swap in

internal hub flattop dana 44 with 3.73 gears 6lug
external hub flattop dana 44 with 4.10 gears 8 lug with matching 14 bolt

or should i wait and get a dana 60?

plans for burb are 4" lift 35" tires
4bt cummins ranger splitter, sm465, np205. possible doubler.

goals of build are capable offroad rig, camping, roadtrip and commuting. with goals of mpg in the 20's by having gears in the 3.5 range and relative light weight. relative part being that i am willing to sacrifice weight for reliability.

comments thoughts concerns are welcome. thanks in advance.

I would go with the 4.10 D44 and 14B, that setup is fairly strong and lightweight, plus you could swap in a D60 up front later on if you needed to.

Since your building go 8 lug now!! 35's and a diesel deserve a full float rearend.

If cost is an issue, go with the matched set. 4.10s with a range splitter(overdrive?) would be close if this were gas, but I have no idea about diesels.

And the burb with that build being light is a nice dream:screwy::D:D
Good luck

yeah lightwieght does seem like an oxymoron with a burb. i'm wanting to stay around 6000 lbs or lessand avoid upwards of 7500-8000lbs. in a past life i had a powerjoke crew cab that weighed 8000 but still got 18 mpg.

yes the splitter would be an od.

thanks for the input guys. any thoughts on the durability of the small bearing external hubs?

I'm pretty sure you can just change the spindle and outer assemblies and have the internal hubs, flat top, and 4.11's combo. Not 100% but I thought if you just changed the spindle you could run the internal hubs.

sweet, now i just need the swap stuff thanks guys!

after looking around i think the plan is going to be swap the 3/4 tons in from the free parts truck. and the 10 bolts into the parts truck, sell the parts truck for dana 60 money!
