burnt coil

The last time i burned my coil i was giving my truck hell on the sand dunes, my guess a faulty wire somewhere

From my own experience it could be two things:

VERY high resistance plug wire - I made a set of custom MSD wires, and crimped them all myself. I thought I'd checked the ohms on each of them (should only be 100ohms per wire or less IIRC) but one was sky-high. The end result I believe is that the MSD box was sending a lot more juice trying to overcome the resistance. Eventually the coil just konks out...

Burnt up center electrode in the dizzy cap - Same effect, but for ALL cylinders... mine got so corroded and worn that the truck would barely run. I'm sure this was another contributing factor to my coil failure.

Sometimes it's the "simple" things you need to check first.

Internal or external coil?

If internal, make sure the ground strap (under coil screw) is there.

Ditto on the MSD wires they are a cuople of years old now, may be time for a new set, and will check the dizzy cap
