Has anyone actually done one?

I inherited our 1967 ford church bus because of motor problems. Got it home and figured out the waterpump blew the seal out.

So as of now the Bus to RV build is

4 of 6 new tires
ENTIRE new brake job
-all new wheel cylinders, refurbed pads, new MC, newlines
repacked all bearings
new rear diff oil
carb job
replaced oil bath to new breather

Gotta go, ill finish in a few!

My ED class is getting intresting.:D

anywho...

reset valves
new hoses
new belt
and new clearance lights

next step is to get the water pump put on it and start gutting the inside.
I will take deminsions and draw out the layout and hopefully start building my own redneck camper. Should be fun.

If anyone has done this before and have advise, let me know.

Are you going to use the entire thing for an RV, or are you going to flatbed the rear.

Im going to keep the way it is. Its only a 1/2 bus 36 passenger. I plan on extending the frame about 3 ft out to make a patio platform and to hold propane bottles, generator. Going to make it stout enough to pull a trailer if I need to.

If you are looking for some informatiuon or some other links check these guys out. Great bunch of people. The site is a wealth of info on the "bumpside" 67-72 ford trucks. Now you need a 67 F-100 to go with the bus? I know where one is pretty cheap LOL. Good luck with the build

I actually thought about that when I saw your truck for sale. Gotta pass though. lol

I forgot to add that the spark plugs, wires and distributor are new as well.

I was looking at it last night and started thinking...

the front is setting on some massive springs already. I wonder how hard it would be to find a front axle and turned that bad boy into a 4x4 bus? Could I possibly go to a complete Chevy drivetrain except for the rear axle? Chevy motor, tranny, transfer case.

Would a 465/205 combo be stout enough for this big rig. How bout a dually D60? I would love to go chevy for the entire thing and then hang a big bowtie on the front grill. Or am I going to have to look at some heavier duty stuff.

it currently has either a 464 or 491 engine. At least that is what the automotive book says.

I dunno, what do you think?

I took a complets running 64 passenger bus to the scrap yard  got $985 for it $60 more then the guy owed me for the bill.

Lots have done it I wouldn't unless it was a diesel, mine was a gas 427 tall deck I think.

4x4, you would at least need a 2 ton rockwell anything else would not handle the weight.

I remember the thread about your bus. As for me, it was given to me and I am only 15 miles from my lake/camping/fishing spot. This is also where I do 90% of my deer and hog hunting so gas is ok. The size is good too, not too big, not too small. I have the stuff on hand to put up a set of twin size bunks and possibly a table top bed set up like pop up campers. Should be able to fit the wife and kids no prob.

I didn't even think about the direct weight on the axle. :o I think I will be fine with how it is now.
