on the crapper...
What is the best way to extract a busted zerk fitting? This one is in the lower kingpin on my D60 and it is broken off below the surface. I was thinking of running a drill bit down the hole from the opposite end in hopes it would break free and spin out. I don't want to damage the threads though.

definitely try the easy-out first. if that does not work, then drill.

how did you break the zerk?

easy out usually works fine, i break zerks on my equipement constantly so i have had to remove lots and lots of broken ones.

Thanks, I'll see if I can round up an easy out.

The zerk was already broken when I bought the D60.

it's in a vulnerable spot. Some people have welded a guard onto the bottom cap to protect it.

small torx bit socket works great for me. Tap it into the hole in the zerk and turn it out.

I should have thought of that. :doah:

I picked up a set of bolt extractors at lunch and it came right out.

I already had a set of torx bits though.
