buying a 60 tommorow, and a 14ff LOOK

Hey all, im going to go look at a d60, with 456s , out of a running truck tommorow,,, and it comes as a set. It comes with a 14ff as well, also 456s.

The price is right, and i was wondering,,, what do i look for when looking at these??? Do i look for play ? Where do i start?

Im pretty exited, its my chance to affordably continue my project!!!! :)
 
Sombody post a pic of a 60 please, i want to make sure i dont get burnt on some axle deal, and im not that damn good at this yet, but it looks good over the phone, and everything looks/seems to be legit as far as the axle goes. He says its a complete deal, but complete to what extent?Granted, i had one on my garadge floor for 3 yrs, i just need some help with buying another one. As i cant remember what to look for anymore:confused:
 
Steering arm will be held on with 4 bolts instead of three. Somewhere on the pumkin, probably on a rib you'll find "60F" in raised letters. the passenger side at the spring perch you should see two threaded holes going into the housing, and a cast releif for a single U-bolt.


As for what to look for I'd pull the covers and have a peek inside. That will usually tell you what's been going on. Look for rust, silvery fluid (bearings fubar) chipped teeth etc etc.

How much for the whole thing? I'm looking for a good price on the same setup in a couple weeks... my dad owes me 2000 from my last dirtbike.... hehe.
 
Thats a good start, ill do all of that. I will insist to remove the cover etc. So if i dont see 60 jumping out at me on the pumkin its not a 60.Someone also said there was only three bolts on steering arm the 60, but i dont know. Instead of 4 :confused:

do a serch and find pics. thay have been posted just resently. and its 4 bolt on arm. look for 4 bolt caps not balljoints. and when you see the frt axle wheel joints you will know its a 60 thay are huge. 1/2 tonuse 1310 size and 3/4 and1 ton use 1350. the ujoint in a 60 wheel joint is about a 1480 in size and is masive. if your use to looking at 1/2 and3/4 frts you will se the differance in size. calipers dont have 2 slide bolts thay are block and spring style between bottom of caliper and backing plate.

ive waited a long time and made some expensive mistakes,REAL expensive, i opted to go 3/4 ton, but these are right here with the gears and everything. Crouching tiger hidden dragon. Ill just stay open until i can afford to be locked. Who knows, i could get there tommorow, and it could be all B/S , 3/4 ton stuff. Ill have to wait and see. But i have a feeling its the right time,right stuff,right deal. Im a cheap ass**** , dude, i dont buy anymore unless its a deal. :D
 
alrighty Jacob, here are the pics we talked about...

the axle will be held to the springs with only 3 ubolts, the passenger side spring plate will have holes on the inside (towards the center of the truck) for bolts that are meant to replace the 4th ubolt that would be there in a setup like the 10 bolt/D44

i thought you owned a 60 once before?! :confused: :D

and before anyone asks, yes, that is a brick sitting on my passenger side spring. its used as a wheel chock when my junk gets pushed around.
 
dude im telling you buy that **** if its all legit. I've been looking for 14bsf or ff and all i've see are 20 year old rust piles for 400 bucks and 10 year old working 14's for 800. Same with a d60... Either its gotta be 3/4, rusted, or you lucked out.
