Where's a good place to buy a receiver hitch? Online or otherwise? I've got an '85 K2500.

Thanks,

Craig

where ever you can find a good price on a name brand unit. I ordered mine through a speed shop, it was a Reese unit. Still made in Indiana.

I haven't found what I'd call a good deal. Any suggestions for actual locations? Websites? (online probably preferred)

Thanks,

Craig

dont think you'll ever find a "good deal" on a new one. you might get lucky on ebay or craigslist. some places like desert rat have scratch and dent sections.

chuckle...:doah:

If anyone has suggestions for places to buy I'd appreciate it. Some site you've used that has hitches for chevy trucks and you'd recommend them. There's plenty of sites, but I'd like some recommendations and maybe you've used someone I've never heard of.

Thanks,

Craig

Any big U-haul rental truck facility can get you one at a decent price and can install if you want. Also, places like pep boys or the like.

No good deals cause you have a K20 not a K2500. Your trying to get a hitch for a truck that was never made. I usually get mine though the parts store but with these trucks dying in groups now I would think a salvage yard would have more than you could haul for cheap.

I've used etrailer.com in the past and have been happy with their prices, shipping and service.

I bought one for my k5 from the for sale section of a local 4x4 website paid $20, I bought one for my 95 chevy from a junkyard paid I think $40. Bought one for my 98 s10 a long time ago from a swap meet, Can't remember how much.

I just recently went through this with my k3500... I was about to order one online when I made one last stop at a local shop called Nobile Truck Accessories. They had the exact hitch I wanted for about 25% less than anywhere online.

Find somewhere local.

Just so i didn't have to make a new topic.....

What years will work for my 85 4x4 pickup? I see alot on craigslist for 88-97 chevrolet trucks, will that work?

u haul does it for less than 200 installed for you in a day.i got one from my local body shop for 175 installed couple years ago.go class 3 and if you want to install yourself even cheaper.i think the hitch itself was 120 then 50 for the labor.you could look at harbor freight.com or jcwhitney.com for a good cheap one.i think hundred bucks last time i looked for their brand.

I bought one from RockAuto.com along with an inline wire harness setup.

A K2500 is a GMC truck. A K20 is a Chevy truck. Lesson learned.

Maybe I need to make a new topic??

What years will interchange? Some hitches have the same part number from 73-87 others work for early 80's but not late 80's. Or so it says.

well from my understanding the frames are pretty much the same....

i got one from a yard sale.. guy said it came off of a 1979 chevy pickup...
well $30 for it...

it isnt for my truck.. i ended up making my own bolt holes....

it hangs too low so im going to grind the welds, unbolt the sides and move it up.... but that is next years project....

so if you can find a used one... just try it on where you go.... mine bolted to the bottom of the frame with 6 bolts....

sears has hitches
deals pffff I just cut off an arm and gave them 250 for an installed class3 on my s10
back when I didn't turn much wrenches:doah:

I'd look at salvage yards,I have found like new hitches on trucks that looked like they towed maybe twice with it --most yards sell them for 25-50 bucks and have a lot of them to choose from..

I recently put a reciever hitch on my '82 GMC K2500 (yes, there IS such a thing!) and the frame rails on 73-87 GM trucks are about 32" wide--I had a like new hitch from a later 88 & up style truck that was wider(more like 34") ,I made it work by using 6" channel iron bolted to the bottom of the frame rails to widen them enough for the hitch to bolt onto..some receivers are a "universal" fit and have sliding tubes you can adjust to fit many different trucks,or have brackets that can be bolted on several different ways to fit various makes and models too...
