well I was putting some thought into this last night, and relized that you can Build a Nice custom bumper out of C-channel. And its Probaly pretty Cheap.
How much would a bumper size peice of C-channel go for?

and lets see some pictures of some custom c-channel bumpers

this is my first bumper i made.. not done yet. i got the c channel steel from my dads shop for free. he had them for 20 yrs and its never been used so i finally used it. so far it looks good for me.

the bumper is not completely c-channel. I made the winch plate out of c- channel and where the bumper meets the frame is c channel. It fit perfectly over the width of the frame. Excellent start to the bumper.

The rest of the bumper is made of 2x6x1/4 in thick tubing. Redneck looking but very heavy duty. I plan on redoing it and pushing the winch plate back into the grill to increase approach angle.

My buddy built a couple for his rig using 10" channel in the rear and 6" for the front. No pics, but the rear was just a straight piece and the front had two angles on it to wrap around. Looked pretty sharp. He made the angles by notching the lips, then heating with a torch and bending. Welded back together, ground it out and you couldn't tell. He also cut out a piece on the front to taper it on the ends. Used a piece of plate to cover it back up.

RED X's

nope

I kinda like that one. Did you just notch it and heat it to get the bends in it??

that would be made out of cardboard first and then transferred to steel and cut out in sections at the seams. channel is really hard to get it to bend evenly plus my body isnt perfectly square so we tacked it and adjusted it as we went.

Well it looks pretty good.

yeh i was pleased with the way it truned out. ill never buy bumpers in my life again. i built that with maybe 225 in materials and that was with 20 ft of channel and a a 2'square chunk of 7/16" plate.i built my rear out of 2x4x3/16 and love it i dont get how road armor charges $2500 and people buy them

yeah, ive worked for the company that built road armors stuff, and even did some welding on them my self. alot of bling, but a lot of $$$ too.

it was a hell of a time bending pvfjr's. we heated the hell out of it, then dropped the weight of the truck down on it, while it was on wood blocks.

LOL. I ended up trying this...

and pulling up on the end with the (big!) prybar ... which didn't budge the tube and made my back hurt.

I did, however, have success in the end. I dropped a piece of scrap 2x8 tube UNDER the right-hand edge, and then jacked down. With the tube off the ground it bent pretty easy.

While I'm not opposed to blunt trauma of dropping the truck :haha: I suspect the bending it against something is prolly safer :D
