C/K squares trans tunnel hump bolt in v/s bonded ?

When I put mine back on Chloe, I'm using that black stuff used on the AC box. Stays soft, seals great, pulls right back up if so desired.

I haven’t tried this but read about it on another forum:

With the cover removed, lay a bead of seam sealer on the floor and lay parchment paper over the sealer. Lightly tighten the tunnel cover (leaving it slightly loose) and let the seamer sealer form to the cover and harden for a couple days. Then remove the parchment paper and reinstall the cover.

I had the removable hump in my '80 K10 in & out dozens of times and never put any type of gasket / sealer under the flange. :dunno:

Both of my squares are 2wd cabs (84 C20 & 74 C10) so they’re low hump and non removable. Actually the 74 has a bolt in high hump now but I added that.

Question for y’all, on which specific year did GM start bonding the trans tunnel humps on our squares ?
Or to make it easier please reply with if yours came bolt on or bonded and what year model it is - this way we get real world results.

My guess is that 84 was the last of the bolt on humps since GM did so many changes for the 1985 model year - also, every 85+ square I have ever seen has had the bonded hump.

The newest square that I recall having a bolt on hump was my 83 K-3500 crew cab but I can’t say that I have ever specifically pulled a 84 model hump out to know for sure.

Please reply with what yours came with and what year it is/was ?
Thanks, Tom
Ok I have 82 K5 Blazer that has a hump bolts!

Everything I've had starting in 1984 was either bonded or one-piece. 1983 was the last thing I saw of mine that had a bolt-in tunnel and it was a SM465 in a K30 SRW standard cab. Everything 1980 and older I had was a bolt-in tunnel whether 2wd or 4wd and even the I6 shit. When I lived in the UP a meeyon years ago I probably cut up 150+ of these trucks for parts.

The weirdest one was my Grandpa's 1984 C10, had a tiny little hump in the 1-piece floor with a bigger panel glued over it. TH350 behind a I6.

There are two main types of floor, low and high hump.

All low hump floors are welded together and not removable. Two wheel drive with automatic trucks were all low hump.

High humps floors are for two wheel drive with 4-speed manual SM465 and all 4x4 trucks. They are bolt in from 1973-80.

They are still bolt in in 81-83 but the pattern and shape changes slightly.
(I'm looking for a good Pic)

1984 and up went to welded in with no removable parts in pickup trucks. Suburbans share the same front floor section with the pickups and I believe they went to fully welded in 84 as well.

The K5 on the other hand was low production volume and does not share a common floor panel with the pickup so that is where they started gluing the cover in place. This was a 1985 K5.
