Yep. You read that right. One of my buddies has this stashed in his field and we went and looked it over today to start a game plan to get it back on the road. Story he got was that its was from out west and was used to haul a jet drive drag boat around.

The rear seat folds into a bed, has a 454 and allison transmission.

Plan is simple, fix the rot. 6 liter swap, lower it just a hair and make it level with 19.5s and make her a driver.20190112_163826_001.jpg 20190112_163352.jpg 20190112_163334.jpg 20190112_163524.jpg 20190112_163512.jpg 20190112_163305.jpg

Why the heck would you swap a 454 for 6.0? Spend on the money on some fuel injection. Instead of a 6.0

Because, reliability, technology, and it's not the 1980s.

Seriously though the 454 format have a known history and the 6.0 is low mileage and in the floor.

Reliability? 454s are just as reliable as anything else.
Reliability comes from maintenance.
You can bring that 454 to be the same tech with some EFI
And your right...it's not the 1980s anyone. No 6.slow will ever match a big block.
But it's not my build. So do as you wish.
Once you hook up to a trailer you will find your flaws. That's alot of truck. You will spin that 6.0 to the moon trying to keep up.
I'll just watch:popcorn:

I would bet the 454 is not stock, if it towed a drag boat.

I would also keep the 454.

Maybe not, but it's been sitting for years and he knows no history.

New school old school, if it was to be a tow rig it would be getting a 5.9 swap, I really doubt it will ever have as much as a lawn trailer hooked to it. Plus he wants the 6 liter that's a known good engine and already in his shop. His truck, his call.

I like the truck. I know where another one like it is sitting in Iowa.

I DD a '78 454 Burb with a properly working quadrajet. My wife DD's a '00 Burb with 6 liter. Both are stock, both have very similar grunt and both can be started up and driven right away in the dead of winter. Both have also been dead nuts reliable since we bought them *fingers crossed*.

If the truck can be brought back to life in it's current form, that seems like the wise thing to do. Just my 2 cents though.

Hate the tail lights, but love the truck other than that. I don't even hate the wheels, but 19.5 Alcoas would look really good. It's even got two swing out tool boxes in the bed. Given that, I'd say this maybe hasn't been sitting that long? Seems like those have only been out for a short while, or maybe it's just that I've only noticed them more recently (like the last couple of years). I dig the fuel tank in the bed, but isn't that illegal for gas? Pretty sure here it is illegal unless it's diesel.

Cool truck. I've only ever seen one other like it.
Love the short dually bed lol.

Yeah the tail lights are stupid, no clue in what was in the tank. The truck is exactly as he found it a few years ago sitting in some guys yard

If he was worried one bit about how well this truck would tow it would be getting a cummins swap. It may not even have a hitch on the back when it's done. Lol
