C30 6.0, is NOW a burb swap, thread.

Only thing I ordered not in this pic is head bolts and the front cover tool.

Should only need some gaskets, the piston/ring kit, and possibly an oil pump pickup screen.
Besides the block work.

I have most of the money for all of the rest. But have a few hundies to save yet.

Thought I put the oil pump in that order.. :doah:.
Engine shop didn't seem to have a problem with going .065" on the bore. But I'm waiting till it's actually there and in writing before I buy the pistons.
Never had anything bored before, so I want to be sure.

I'm also going to need to start the wiring harness soon too.

I'm just waiting until I sign the paper saying the over size.

Didn't want to buy em and then they tell me "oh, we thought you said .060"!" Lol

Last .005 should be finish hone and cylinder hone crosshatch pattern.
You going to boost this thing sometime?

Um...:rolleyes2:... It may have crossed my mind as a possibility lol.

If it ever happened it would be low. Like 6-7 psi. I'll still be running stock bottom end. Pistons will be good for 600-700 hp. And I'm told the bottom will be fine there too. Given that I'm not running 1/4 mile passes 5 days a week anyway.

But that's only if it ever goes in something besides the C30.

I'm not sure how that works. Just know that a factory 6.2 bore is 4.065". And the pistons I'm getting are actually 6.2 slugs.

From all I've read that's an easy size to bore a 6.0 too. :dunno:
When I told them the bore size over the phone they shot me a price and never questioned a thing.

Blocks at the shop to get checked, cleaned, and bored.

Parts are starting to show up. Shop didn't say anything about needing the pistons yet :dunno:. But they probably haven't started on it either.
I have the springs, and the locks/retainers are supposed to be here tomorrow.
So hopefully I'll get started on lapping the valves and changing springs tomorrow evening.
I have a leverage style spring compressor. So I'm going to bolt a head to a steel table to remove all the springs. Then unbolt it, make sure the valves stay in the right place, lap em all, and bolt it back down to install the new springs/locks.

With any luck I'll have the heads ready to go by Saturday.

Block may be a while though.

Rubber bands to pinch 2 valves together at a time . This should hold them in as you flip head over .

My buddy uses this trick on head bolts on ford trucks with the firewall hanging over the heads . Saves him pulling a cab .

I'm actually kind of surprised at the cam kit.
It comes with a cam, springs, locks, and seals. But no retainers...?:dunno:
Usually they come with all of that.
I checked on summit, and sure enough, there's not supposed to be retainers with it, so I guess the factory ones will work.

I also realized that I may have to by an LS specific spring compressor.
The one I got will require the rocker rail to be installed, and then use the relatively small rocker bolts as my pivot. I don't like that. So another new tool I guess.
I hate specific tools because I probably won't use it more than once or twice ever:doah:

I figured that the LS stuff isn't going away anytime soon. So a few special tools laying around won't hurt :dunno:.
