Caddy big block in a K5/10??

Caddy is out dated

Why not? I got about 10k in my entire drivetrain. Ill bet it wil stomp a mudhole in the ass of just about every truck on this site :D
#1 a 6.0 frome a newer truck or even an LQ9 will make this HP Tq numbers and they are even lighter =) and stronger. the 6.0 will need tuning and a cam to do it though
The blazer I have now was my dads he bought in 1975 used, He built a decent 400 SBC with angle plug heads and flat tops w a norris 282 cam, He used to belong to Asociated Blazers Of California. The president thought he was gonna beat him by putting a caddy motor in his 78 jimmy, Boy was he wrong! not onley did he have his ass handed to him he swapped it out for a 400 the next week :haha:Our orange pumkin was usually the the first truck to the top of COMP hill
Now Ive just gone ****in mental with a twin turbod Duramamx in it. You can catch a glimpse of the tail lights any time your in Payson Utah :D

But ok yea a caddy is different and for that reason its cool

The main reason they gained any popularity here was the fact any big block chevy motor, especially a 454,was VERY hard to come by ,for less than 800-1000 bucks, whether you shopped at junkyards,or scoured the want ads for a donor truck or car that had one..often a complete vehicle was cheaper than an already pulled motor you couldn't test run--.

The Caddilacs seemed to be the last BB car to get junked around here, for that reason many still in nice shape engine wise could be had for about 400 bucks..thats about the only reason anyone wants them, every other big block is scarce and expensive here now..The engine I feel would make an excellent 4x4 powerplant in stock form, would be a Buick nailhead,a 401 or 425 --I owned two 1966 401's,and they had way more balls than any of the 454's I had (smog era mid 70's versions),and my '69 GTO's 400 was not as torquey as they were--only because the Buicks weighed 3 ton,was why the GTO was faster..I could lay 400' posi burnouts with my Buicks ,and chirp third gear at 55+ mph..:D

I have a 500 sitting in my shed--I only have it because the junkyard I hung at was going out of bussiness, and my friend there and I grabbed the few remaining desireable engines from the junkers before they went in the crusher...

I was going to put it in one of my trucks, but being broke made it senseless to put anything but a chevy motor in them--when the 250 six in my 79 Bonanza blew a piston,I was very tempted to put the 500 in it--but the oil pan was the biggest hurdle,I didn't have an Eldorado pan in stock, neither did anyone else--for the 150 bucks that would have cost,I bought an '86 G-10 van with a good 305 V8 and used that instead..the Caddy motor still sits where I plopped it 5 years ago, every once in a while I turn it over by hand,to ensure its not stuck yet.

--my brother bought a '57 Studebaker Transtar pickup not long ago,it may end up in that he thought--but now he's probably going to subframe it with a 79 T/A clip and use one of the many Chevy engines he has instead..the older you get,the more you want to do things the easy way..cant say I blame him, just bolting up what belonged in a vehicle is hard enough once you pass the 50 year mark!....

Also don't forget the old folks keep those cars forever, put little, low stress use on them over that long time, and then up here the salt ate the cars alive. The engines survived but the cars didn't where as elsewhere the cars just kept getting driven and the engines worn down.

Out here the 454's are rotting in the local pick and pulls. Funnyest thng ive seen is some jerkoff took the crank rods pistons and puushrods from one and left the rest scattered on the ground from a tbi truck, that just confuused tthe crap out of me. Why when u couuld buy the whole eng for 150 bucks runing. Oh well its a cool idea to do a caddy. But like I saiid I have 10k nvested in my entire setup right now incl a dana 60 front w upgraded brakes and a 205 tcase, And I Scared a VIper right off the fwy the other day and freaked some kid out in a bike cause I train linked his ass =)
AHh good times good times

Not sure now with the economy down and people selling their toys but a few years ago in Michigan you COULD NOT find a big block in rebuildable shape. A few friends of mine were looking and getting nothing.

I just bought a 1977 C30, 454, SM465, complete truck for $200.

Must be nice. The basket case C10's around here go for $500.

I have bought most of my Chevrolet's for under $500. I paid that much for a 1985 K10 donor once, but just because I wanted the complete hydraulic SM465/NP208 out of it, and I was kind of in a hurry.

Well, sounds like they're all in Nebraska then.
