Caddy thread

thanks for the compliments, it was definitely challenging

In 2012 I was set on pre-ordering a Camaro ZL1 when they first came out, even put down a deposit. In the mean time I test drove a CTS-V Wagon to get a feel for the platform. Definitely fun and cool but at the time being young and single I thought a wagon was lame and the CTS-V was a little too fancy for my taste. Long story short, I ended up pulling my deposit and buying a Camaro SS. I really regret selling it a few years later.

Put new plugs in the stsv a few weeks ago. What a difference. Pretty sure the old ones were original plugs.
Ran a bottle of injector cleaner through the tank.

Not sure what I would need to do for a regular tune up, maintenance? Maybe @ZooMad75 can point me in the right direction on that.

She runs hard. Thats for sure :waytogo:

A little supercharger porn incoming.....

with that intake if you didnt know what you were looking for you would never know there is a supercharger under there. Also it appears you have the same coolant tee as the cts-v that seems to go out at the worst possible time. Might not be a bad idea to throw a brass tee, barb fittings and some hose clamps in the trunk for when it does happen

Yeah you couldn't even see the engine before I pulled all the plastic crap off.

I seen no reason for all the plastic crap over the fenders and engine. Plus they are all insulated so thats keeping heat in.
I'm going to pull the juke off from the under the hood one of these days. I can say I can hear the super more under boost without the plastic covers in place.
And who wouldn't want to listen to that??
The engine sure isn't much to look at. Pretty ugly. But i am not thinking about that when I am watching the boost gage climb.....

So your telling me that plastic tee cracks or breaks?

i have seen both happen, most of the time if it completely breaks it was due to work around that area. usually it just cracks under normal conditions from age. It seems weekly on the v forums someone is complaining about having to replace it. I still have the original on mine but just keep the spare in the trunk because i know its coming

hardware store tee, there was talks about samco making a silicone version but i think covid-19 has delayed production

Not much to do if you already did the plugs. Change the coolant out if it's 10 yrs old or lacking freeze protection. Trans and rear diff services depending on the mileage.

Couldn't say when any of that stuff was changed last.

What are the mileage service intervals for the rear end and trans?

Normal interval is 100k on the trans, 50k severe service. No listing on the rear axle, but AWD cars got hit every 50k for the drivetrain. No specific listing on the rear axle alone which means inspect and change when the fluid is discolored.

Supercharger intercooler system service every 5 years or 150k whichever comes first.

Good to know. I know the supercharger coolant was changed when the additional intercooler was added with res. Tank and pump. Still probably won't hurt it none to do it.

well on the way home from the hospital with the new little boy the car started to develop a noise. parked it and got a ride home with the mother in law. After trailering it home i was really hoping the noise i was hearing was the clunky dual mass flywheel or the throwout bearing. I had just ordered a new clutch, flywheel, master, and slave cylinder the week prior as the clutch would not always disengage after some spirited driving. So i got to work tearing the trans out of it without much diagnosing of the noise. After reassembly the noise was still there so i started to actually diagnose the problem. found the lifter for the exhaust valve on #3 was chewed up. figured it was time to pull the motor and go through all of it after finding that.

gonna see if the budget will allow it, already have plans to send the heads to prc for some cnc porting, a fast 102 intake and throttle body, and new camshaft obviously, after the clutch i already used up a lot of the budget for the car, now i dont know if there is even a budget at all haha

Why not just replace the cam and lifters? Too much metal in the oil?

What made you decide to pull the plug on the ZL1 for the SS?
