Cage Build with Pics-Jimmy

After all this time I finally decided to put a cage in the Jimmy. Stole the overall idea off of a picture I saw on this forum. Here's a few pics to start with. should be done with it in a week or so. Still have a lot to do. What do you guys think so far. I'm using 2" HREW, and mounting to the frame in about 8 places.

Looks good so far. What are your plans for the sides? Tube tied into the cage?

In the back there will be tubes running down to the frame, along with a cage covering the back seat. I still have a lot to do, the front bars by the doors took a lot of our time to bend, because of the unusual bends and angles. The rest should be fairly quick. I would like to move the fuel tank behind the seat so I can chop some of the frame off, but trying to get it ready for a ride in 2 weeks. Gotta do hydro assist in 2 weeks as well. Kinda short on time. I'll update pics later this week if we get enough done.

Update

Got some more of the cage done this weekend. Still have a couple pieces left. Windshield cross bar, bar behind the back seat, and one more tied into the frame. Looks a lot better and more like a cage now. turned out pretty good. This is the only picture I have, taken from my cell phone. I forgot the camera. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

HREW tube should be bent with the seam on the inside of the radius. DOM does not matter, but HREW can split at the seam during bending. As you probably know the welded seam is the weak spot of the tube and during an impact if a tube that has a bend in it get forced and bent further from an impact it can split too under force causing a much greater failure then it would if it had not split of course. FYI. Other then that it looks really good.

I like the back..... maybe add a triangulation piece down low by the floor on those 2 down posts up to that horizontal run on each side, to the underside of where that tube comes down into it....... might even be able to incorporate a shock mount in that too...

i figured it would help serve 3 purposes, help transfer any vertical load to that back post, possibly incorporate long travel shocks, and look good....

what bender are you using?

Not sure of the brand, but it's a Pneumatic-hydraulic bender. A friend of mine used to build choppers, and it's what he used for that. Works great, and much better than a manual bender.

Looks pretty impressive so far. You said you were trying to finish it two weeks. Are you taking it River Rock ORV for the Memorial Day ride?

Taking it this weekend May 21-23 for the annual spring crawl. Always a great time with a lot of people. Let me know if you're going, would like to meet ya.

Thanks. I've been to the spring crawl several times. Lots of people. This year should be a lot cooler than past years I think. I don't know if I'll be able to go this time or not. Promised the wife I would take her on a trip somewhere. I don't think River Rock would count though.

Paul, missed ya this weekend. We had a good time. Had some issues with my power steering cause I didn't have time to do my hydro assist. Here are some update pics. Still not completely done with the cage. I felt a lot safer with what I had Though. Suffered some new body damage on the front clip. Now my truck looks like it's frowning

It's actually not that bad to get in and out, but i'm also a tall, skinny guy. It's a perfect arm rest! If it was any lower, I don't think it would serve its purpose, any higher and it would definelty be a pain in the ass.
