Cage finally done

Thanks!

Good luck building yours, very worthwhile investmant IMO.

That is quite possibly one of the most bad ass roll cages I have ever seen installed in one of these trucks.

I certainly wish I could bend tube like that.

Good job. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Rene, do you have more pics of the winshield frame or why you did it with the tube inserted? Also a side pic of the cage? It all looks so badass. And I'm getting off my ass this winter to do a body swap and thinking about doing a cage at the same time....

Very nice Rene!!!!! So the hard top is going on so soon??? It's only September!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

OK, just snapped this one from the side...

Pegging the windshield frame really helped keep it straight and in place while fitting it. I also think it should help strength a bit although with the cage it's pretty much a moot point anyways. It was a 10 minute job to add those.

Here is a shot from the front with the windshield frame removed. That is BigDummy89K5 (Stan) helping out...

One concern as I was looking over the thread again.. The front part has a slope in it down to the A-pillars. With the slope added into the already bent A-pillars, it seems like a weak point in the cage. Especially in a frontal flop, seems like that part of the cage would fold easily.... /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

It's no weaker there than any other cage with a front 'halo' and supports underneath it. BTW, what exactly is a frontal flop? /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

If it's going to flop it'll more than likely go over sideways. If it goes over weird and hits the front corner hard first, the force should travel through the diagonal brace as well as test the corner itself.

I really don't believe any cage is built to withstand ANY rollover scenario no matter how extreme, and not see some tweaking or damage. I don't see this one folding up unless the rollover is at very high speed (not in this truck /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) or off the side of a drop off of some description.

The amount of support the front bars provide has nothing to do with how the front 'halo' dips under the windshield frame.

LOL, you dont like my description?? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif How about A$$ over tea cups?? /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

What i am just saying is that the is a bend at the dash and then the bend at the windshield dip. 99% of cages have a bend at the dash and hold up fine.. My concern is with the bend for the windshield dip and a hard corner hit.

The pic I was looking for on the net is gone, but a similar example of what I am talking about is this:
684faildcage.jpg

What I am concerned with is with an impact on a front corner and the cage giving out at the bend in the horizontal bar for the front halo.

In a roll like that I'm not too concerned with how good the cage looks afterwards. If you check the pic you posted you'll see the guy had some headroom left and it must have been one hell of a roll. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif The cage did it's job, even though it 'failed'.

If my truck goes ass over teakettle I'm sure my cage and 99% of any cages out there will fold somewhat at the front corner. It's a problem area that can't easily be braced.

Personally I don't think that slight bend is gonna make any appreciable difference in a catastrophic endo.
