Sierra National Forest Motorized Travel Management DEIS Available Soon

The Sierra National Forest, located in east central California, will be releasing their Motorized Travel Management Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on May 1, 2009, for public review and comment.

The Motorized Travel Management Project is part of a national effort to designate transportation systems on each national forest in the country. The goal is to develop a sustainable network of roads and trails that provide opportunities for access and recreation while protecting natural and cultural resources.

Beginning the week of April 27, 2009, the Forest Service (FS) will begin mailing out copies of the document to those who requested them. Beginning May 1, 2009, copies will also be available at Sierra National Forest offices, on the Forest’s website http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sierra/projects/ohv/index.shtml, at the public workshops or by emailing a request to [email protected] with “Document Request” in the subject line.

The document can be requested on a CD or Printed Copy (limited amounts available). Please make sure to include a mailing address where you want the document sent.

Below is the schedule of public workshops the Sierra National Forest will be hosting. Meetings may also be arranged for groups, clubs or organizations to provide an overview of the document. Please send a request to [email protected] and specify “Meeting Request” in the subject line.
