California girl

1973 Chevy Blazer
Drove to Michigan from the eastern shore of Maryland to pick this Blazer up. At this point all I had were pictures. But I had seen enough in the pictures that I knew I was coming home with it. The previous owner had started some kind of rebuild and had this in prices. I pretty much had to bolt the body to the frame. Put doors core support and fenders on. Install the tailgate. And threw everything else inside. I’d spent three hours putting it together and loading it up. Stayed overnight just outside Detroit and pulled her home the next day. I think I spent $500 in fuel alone.

Since it’s been home, ive pulled all the doors, fenders and tailgate off. I’ve pulled the engine and transmision. Cleaned it out and evaluated everything. I’m just now getting into some floor/metal repairs

Most people from Michigan go to Maryland in search of rust free stuff…..I dig it!

I don’t have any of my roof mount brackets so I had to make some up for now. I wanted make sure I don’t have any movement with anything I’m working on. Not sure I’d that’s over kill or not but don’t want to get myself in trouble. Started work on the passenger side. Removed the dented in rockers. The rocker box on this side had been pushed up. The inner rocker is a bit wrinkled up. Pulled it out the best I could. I eventually cut some of this area out due to trying to pullnthe dent out of the rocker box. The floors on this side are pitted deep. So I’m cutting out just what I think I should and leaving as much as possible. Body work/auto mechanics is not what i do and it’s been a long time since I’ve have something like this to work on, so this should be fun.

Floor patches welded in, still have to grind on them. decided I needed to build a metal break To make the other patches I needed. Had most of the material laying around for the break. Started making the last patches for the passenger side.

Finished building my metal break. Coated the inside of my rocker box with corroseal. And welded up another hole.

So I picked up a few parts over the weekend. Got a second top due to mine having some cracks. This one has its own issues. it’s has some areas delaminating. Anyone ever fix one link this? What did you use? Also has some staging roof top areas. Also cut the windshield frame off just because I could. Took the doors just for those misc 73-75 parts

My roll bar after getting home I realized it’s been cut down 2-3”. Can anyone give me a good measurement from the bottom of this bracket to the to of the floor plate? And possibly how wide the rear floor plate is? As it’s also been cut. I only paid $50 for It.

Well thats decent metal for MI. good to see the progress!

Guy from michigan had bought it from California near LA Just a few years ago. Hence the “California girl”

So I’ve officially repaired the floor and rockers now on both sides. I’m ready to put this thing on my rotisserie. I need to build braces for my door jambs. But first I’m pulling that 5.3 out of the 02 suburban. 259000 miles on it. Has had mobile one in it it’s whole life and drove by an older gentleman. Has great oil pressure. Not sure if I just rebuild the top end, or use it for a core and buy new.

I say if its got good oil pressure, throw some parts as needed for reliability to the exterior, a new set of plugs wires and coils, and run it!

Nice build so far, I'll follow along

I may copy your brake, good idea

What shape are those wagon wheels in, they would look nice on your build
