So I made a thread about a week ago about how to get the most out of my 350, I really don't want to swap a new motor. Unless is is California legal to swap a 6.2 Diesel? I know I'm not allowed to swap motors from earlier years, but what if its the same year? Also how would smog play out? Is there anyone who knows anything on this or someone who would? And for a diesel swap what would be needed?

Yes you can swap a diesel into your rig BUT the engine needs to be the same year or newer and once the swap is done you'll need to vist the referee one time and then they'll excempt it from emissions testing.

Alright that is something i love to hear, thanks for the info. whats needed for a diesel swap?

Yep....motor swaps have to be from the same class of truck, I.e., light duty, mid duty, etc.
And from the same year or newer.

Yeah pretty much you put same year or newer engine and also has to be same class.
You can not put a cummins in K5 anymore because a cummins was not offered in a 1/2 ton truck.
As long as you do this right and put all the smog equipment that came with the engine, you will pass the referee check and then it will officially be a diesel truck and you will never need to smog it again.
At least until they change the laws.
What year and what truck do you have and what are you thinking of putting in there.

I was looking at the 6.5s outta the HMMWVs but are those legal? if not theres tons of trucks on craigslist that have 6.2s in them. I've got a TH400 and I've been told they should bolt right up but thats still not confirmed for me.
So I'll need The motor, wireharness, gauge cluster.
Will I need a whole new fuel line? or can i purge what I have and call it good?

We still don't know what you have, if it's a 1/2 ton truck or a K5 the Humvee engines won't do, unless you get the right intake for them with an EGR.
I have one of those if you chose to do so, you can also do it to pass the inspection then put back the J code intake, bu that is a lot of work.
If you have a HD 3/4 ton, then you can use a Humvee engine or any 6.2 or 6.5 engine.
And yes the th400 will bolt up perfect, you will need to change 2 items: the governor, and the Torque converter, easy enough to do, but cost is the problem.
If you need any help, there plenty of guys in the area, including a real knowledgeable guy in Campbel, CA.

I was talking to my buddy who's a diesel mechanic, and after weighing the choices I've decided to stay gas. It's my daily driver and I couldn't have it out of service for more that a week. Thanks for all the input everyone, going into this blindly would of killed me.
