hmmm... I used to be ASE certified... maybe when it's time to renew next January I'll mail Steve a patch in exchange for a membership.

I'm an ASE and Nissan Master tech., been a PAID member since 2004. I've shared knowledge and acquired a great bit of knowledge on here. It's the guys that are willing to pay membership dues and provide all the knowledge they can to the guys that need it that make this place as tight knit as it is. Maybe you should ask this same question over at PIRATE, better wear some asbestos droors though. OH, and by the way, most of the innovations in the offroad industry come from outside the box and not from the book.

I have a Degree in Automotive Technology, and I am an ASE Master, and Volvo Master tech. I am more than happy to pay, and feel more knowledge is gained in the real world, than answering test questions. I`ve been a tech for 20 yrs, the tests and stats impress the boss sometimes. I`ve seen plenty of people that were`nt techs make and do awsome stuff, and you`ll find lots of old timers that don`t give a sh*t that you took a test and somebody someplace says your an expert. Most of these guys can fix anything, in ways you never thought of, and books don`t teach. I did enjoy the backpedalling, but you did state you proposed this because you were a cheapskate. The wealth of knowledge on here, and the quality of all the members I have dealt with, is worth way more than the $25.
well i have been working for the last 29 years in a shop and the last17 years part ownership with my brother,and have no certification! regular grade 12.can solve quit a few problems ,wanting too pay my membership and can,t ,because my stupid credit card dosn,t work here!!!

Well, I have A1, A8, and about 22 specific classes with BMW as a Master tech, and was factory trained by Porsche, and VW/Audi. I use to build 996 GT3 Cup cars for the Rolex series and SCCA and POC events. I paid for my membership since I didn't know **** about K5's. Regardless, servers and bandwidth cost money, i.e. advertising, memberships, shirts, stickers, etc. Pony up. Its worth it.

Not even close to the same. I was a union rep, and a card carrying Republican.
Heck, I've got multiple electronic degrees, am qualified for several other specialties, and I am so better looking than most of the other people here that they should pay me just to class the place up some.
But NOOOO, they make me pay, even though 90% of everything I learn here I will probably never use because I don't even own a Government Motors product!
And yet they just keep dragging me back in. ( My best Godfather imitation).
BTW, I've only been here for about a year. Is this the fastest growing thread any of you have seen lately?

I'm a journeyman HD mechanic. licensed CVIP inspector, licensed Class 1 driver. been a paying stiff for almost 7 years..........wow i suck.

There is always an exception to the rule! J/K anyways. I just have union buddies and they all voted for Obama because "it's whats good for the union" <insert puke smiley here>
Nothing against the union. If I ever lost my business I would probably join the union the next day. You were spot on with the liberal democrate statment.
