I have decided to replace the headers on my '73 K5 with another set of headers and I want to find out which ones you guys have the best luck with. Most of the header footnotes I find say something about the clutch linkage possibly being a factor and I want to know how much of a factor that is. Since my truck is a mallcrawler that will never see snow and barely see rain I'm just going with a good painted set of long tubes.

Post your part numbers if you got 'em. Thanks.

I've got the ceramic coated Headman Elite's with the thick flange on mine. Never had a problem with install.

I'd have to look up the part number.
(I bought 'em from Summit :thumb:)

PS> In fact, you could call Summit and ask their tech support what to use..... :D

I know that Ben but I'm looking for real-world experiences. Nobody here at work I know has a 2nd-Gen Blazer with SM465 that can give me any hands-on info.:D

No that's good, with that p/n I can find the painted version, those are the headers that jiminycricket said worked great for him too. I'm going to check the painted version...thanks:D

I can snap a picture of how mine clears if you want. I don't remember having any trouble putting things in with the clutch linkage on the SM465.

Cool thanks Ben. I shouldn't need the pix, I'll probably do the job sometime this month. I'll let you know how it goes.

I had a '77 k10 and '73 K5 with the same engine including headers.
I think they were Hooker. I know they were cheaper, painted black cause I was really broke back then. Not sure, bought them in about 1995, have since sold the K5 (dang it).
I know I got them from Summit and originally for the '77 with a th350.
They later fit in the '73 with a SM465. Only problem I had was with the collector gasket going out about every other year.

I've got a set of hedman long tubes. I know they fit cuz my truck is a 73 with sm465. Basically brand new, fired in the shop, never even driven with. PM me if interested.

I ran a pair of shorty headers on mine--the collectors had roughly the same exit angle as a set of stock exhaust manifolds--no clearance problems with the bellcrank. I used some of those lockwashers specifically for headers that had a pretty radical split--didn't really ever have any troubles with the flange bolts at the head backing off. I think the headers were for a mid-80's Camaro--I don't remember for sure. The driver's side header had a port for an 02 sensor it that helps.

Those are not quite the painted versions of the Elites. The Elites list 3/8" flange and 14 gauge tube, the part number you posted are 1/4" flange & 16 gauge tube.

YEs spark plug removal and installation blows, you have to get them from every which way, lol.
