im here in and out..... so much going on all the time....
anyway...
lemme see what I can answer...
Rootbreaker, how do you like your crossover steering? I am considering it but not sure if it is worth the $$ for my DD/Tow/offroad truck. I can definatly notice the bumpsteer.
well lets say I was worried about the extra cost.. but tell you what... LOVE IT
my truck turns sooo much better now...
also consider this... if you have the traditional steering (this is why I upgraded ..as this happened to me...)
you go down a windy steep hilly trail.... as your left tire (think that was the one) droops as there is a hole there.. your steering wheel will turn on you even though you are going straight... well at the time to turn.. im already locked on the steering wheel... cant turn the way I need to because the drooped tire has taken all the steering out...
ok also my power steering belt was loose but you can see how well it turns here...

So you have detroits front and rear? I am contemplating one for the front since i will be swapping to a D60 shortly.
I love my front detroit... and yes I would do it again.. although people say on rocks detroits can be a pain... but in the mud and sand.. I LOVE MINE!!!!
What are you running for tires? 39'' GH's? Just curious if your 4.56's are enough gear. I am switching to 4.56's with 36'' tires.
I started out with the smc465 and stock 4.56's with 33's.... real stump puller... went to 40" ground hawgs... hawgs run small... from denman they say a 40" hawg on a 9.75" wide rim is 39" well I put mine on 12" wide rims to get the height down some more... so I am at 38.8 but I needed that to pass inspection....
there are always delemas... people say gh suck.. well they wear like iron... are not great on rocks... second best to boggers in the mud and sand... and dont wear out to the pits like boggers....
I myself and 2 other people I know love GH and will never go with anything else....
with detroit front and rear.. I dont have to throttle like everyone else.. but get to use finess to get through what I need to....
I will also be putting in a 400P for the torque factor.
YIPES!!!! 400hp NICE...
I took a sloppy 1991 caprice police 350 (told it was high hp and bought it when the internet was not like it is today)
well it is a measly 195hp and 295 lb ft torque.. but at least a roller...
it is the L05 block...
I added 1996 tahoe vortec heads
comp cams extreme 4x4 cam (smallest as I wanted power at idle) so it is .458" lift
weiand power plus+ dual plane intake
full tube headers
holley truck avenger 670cfm carb with .35" discharge nozzles and biggest accelerator pump.
I have not got to dyno the truck yet but this summer I want to... im hoping to be about 300-325hp and 295-330 lb ft torque...
now this post is getting long so I appologize and bear with me...
I just put my truck on the road in 2005 as it was off the road since 1997. before the motor mods I was not impressed with the trucks power... I did not get stuck AT ALL but I was not impressed.... I did the motor mods and still not impressed...
I just added a msd 6al with built in rev limiter and timing control module.
Well now we are setting my timing and realized something... my timing is off...
so we pulled the plug and went to top dead center, rotor facing #1... well it is still not right.. so we pulled every plug off and moved them over counter clockwise... then rotated the distributor clockwise (lost yet

)
and now the timing is set.. the problem I was having is I was hitting the intake and couldnt turn the distributor enough.....
so hopefully with this new found timing and all im hoping to be more pleased with the power...
the 4.56 are enough with the smc465 to spin these hawgs with EASE and retarded timing!!!!!!!
any other q's just ask.... I have started posting now and then.... it is cold out so things slow down a bit...
