Since I have to wait till autozone opens up tomorrow to finish my disc conversion on my 14ff, I got to work on the big block. I lubed the cam up and stuck it back in, I have never worked with a timing gear setup like this has. I want to ensure that I put it back in correctly and was wondering if any of you could help me out. I believe the marks are the ones I have circled, and if so, what do I do, just line them up? Any help is much appreciated as always!

yellow circles would be easier to see ;)

i only see the circle around the dot on the cam gear, so youve got the right idea. the dimple on the cam gear should be at the 6 oclock position, and the dimple on the crank gear should be at the 12 oclock position, very much like the marks on a standard chaindrive timing setup. then slide the two idler gears into place. In this picture, you appear to have the cam 180* out of time.

Kinda after the fact here, but is this engine computer controlled with a knock sensor??? gear drives have a very particular sound that can sometimes trigger the knock sensor which makes tuning and reliable operation a bit of an issue.

Yes just line up the marks you have circled. Pull out the idler gears...rotate the crank so the dimple is pointing straight up, rotate the cam so the dimple is straight down and reinstall the idler gears.

This engine is not computer controlled, its a 1969 396 big block with a holley truck avenger 770. Was pushing 504hp at the flywheel before my lil brother overheated it, and the top end was rebuilt. And thanks a lot for the help, I would never be able to build my truck like I have without the help of all of you guys.

glad to help, its nice to be able to give back every once in a while, normally im just wandering around asking these guys questions.
