I swapped in 52"s and x over awhile ago and have had bumpsteer but a tolerable amount. But when I turn the wheel at a stop it lifts the side of the truck up, and when I rock the truck side to side the steering wheel turns with it like crazy. My buddys truck did the same thing and he fixed it with a raised steering arm (obviously not an option). I have shims under the spring pack but small ones. Is camber off? It makes sense to me that this would lift the side of the truck and tilt to one side with the wheel turned. Also there is a slight vibration at highway speeds but nothing bad at all.

Also ever since the swap my trucks had a hard time turning the tires at a stop and low speeds. Before I swapped in a new ps pump (my last one was burned up from running with very low fluid after my last ps box puked everything out) it couldnt turn them at all. With the new (to me) pump it turns em but any resistance and it wont (dirt wall etc). they are 35"s btw. I'm going to do the ps pump mod and see if that helps, but maybe having something off with the steering/ alignment/ etc is helping cause this too?

And I've searched and searched but cant find the page with the qjet mod with the tube running from front to back to help it run off camber. Linky? I figured out last time wheelin my truck doesnt like running almost on its side :doah:. Wanna help it out a little with the mod

Oh yeah...and merry christmas too! :D:D

When you move the steering wheel, the frame has to counteract the force of the draglink pushing against the knuckle. This causes the axle to "walk" under the truck (I bet mine moves 2" side to side, each way, when the tires are bound up).

I doubt the truck is actually raising up but more likely you are feeling the frame/body moving over the axle rather than having the axle steer. This is one of the pitfalls of leaf springs (especially soft ones) and one of the advantages of a link suspension.

*EDIT*

The above is probably irrelevant to what you're talking about, I realized what's going on as I finished the above reply. The caster that your front axle has will raise and lower the truck as you cycle the steering. Its part of how caster works and why it keeps the steering centered. Anything with more than 0 degrees of caster (K5's generally had ~6) will raise/lower while cycling the steering

Having a 35" tire jammed into a wall is far beyond what the stock system is designed for. Crossover steering actually has 30% less steering power than the stock system (less leverage). This is why many people add hydro assist, it makes a world of difference.

I still run a Q-jet and have had my truck on its side and it still ran. I haven't made any mods to it to make it work better offroad (since it works so damn good from the factory :D). I would make sure that everything is set correctly on it, particularly float level and fuel pressure (I run 2.5-3 psi)
