I'm currently working on a camo job on my K-5. Since I'm a newer member I can't post pics or URL's yet but I would like to here from you and see any pics you might have.

I am intrigued too. I have a faded black paint job that has been resprayed once, dents, brush scrapes, and body mods by boulders and sawz-all. I wanted to do sand camo for the CA deserts. I will be watching.

Once or twice.... okay, three times :D

Three trucks:

In order, '74 K5, '74 C20 (-->30) sixpack, '84 CUCV.

Feel free to ask questions about technique, request specific photos, whatever.

I'm just in primer and sanding stage right now but been spending alot of time studying on the intenet. I have sanded and painted alot of wood, but never tried anything like this before. Going to do all the work myself and hope it turns out O.K.

Is that just spay can or from a gun?
Did you mask of areas or just spray over with your other colors?

Yes. :haha:

The brown truck was rattle-canned with considerable prep, washing, sanding, Bondo. The first time I masked off the color zones, but it was too exact. Second time around I just waved the can, better results IMO. The other two trucks were just free-handed, no masking (well, duh, I masked the glass.)

The Smurf truck was rattle-canned with minimal prep -- I even washed some parts before primer and paint :D

The green one was done with a spray gun and tremendous prep, wash, sand, weld, Bondo, repeat. Came out nice and all, but I'd not do it again.

Hey, I just noticed something. On your smurf truck, what the hell are those cut-outs in the bottom of your doors?

Wow, nice thread hi-jack lol

They're supposed to be footholds to clamber up in. They suck and I regret cutting them.

tx you from. Thanks for fighting for my freedom.

Hey install!

I'm from Kingsbury, TX. And thank YOU for supporting us.

I believe you said you were doing desert camo correct? I can post you some pictures, but our desert (camo) for Iraq isn't really camo so much, but then again, once you've seen Iraq, maybe it IS camo. All our trucks for 'desert camo' are painted just FLAT tan. Out on the desert here, there is no pattern etc to camouflage against, not like the desert in the US where there is tumbleweeds, cactus, shrubs, rocks, varying colors of sand. Here, it is all one color, tan sand. I had a really nice post typed up with pictures linked etc, but it says I can't post URLs until I have 15 posts, so unfortunately I had to delete it all. Once I get 15 posts I will come back and post the images for you. :(

I'd start with a flat tan color if I were you then go full camo if you want later. I say this because I bounce back and forth between sticking with the o.d. or going full nato type camo. Try rapcoparts.com for paint, its good stuff and you can get it in a rattle can or by the gallon.

Also, do you want the camo look or are you hunting out of it? Picked up the netting a while back but haven't had a chance to try it out in the field. A little overkill, but then the whole truck kind of is.:D

Yeah I have had the same problem with posting pics and URL's myself. Oh well we well get there sooner or later.

Yeah I planed on going with just my base color for now, just to get some paint covering the primer and then go from there. What do you think of a mud red. Well our mud around here is red anyway.

Man I wish I could post images because that would really help right now. Whatever is the most common color of the area you are going to be camouflaging in is probably your safest bet for the base, and make sure you use FLAT paint so it doesn't reflect light.

Camo paint is cool ! Alot of people i have seen lately have been using vinyl rapping we have a local sign shop that raps entire vehicles . Maybe one in your town . Most military designs available , all the way to mossy oak style camo .
