i have finally found an 8 lug 15in wheel i like in chrome with 2.5BS but it's 15x8. they have a 15x10 but it's 4.25BS and i like my tires to stick out quite a bit. would my mud grapplers fit on an 8in wide wheel or would i have problems keeping the bead. the 10in wides with spacers might be my best bet.

The max I have herd for a 15x8 would be a 12.5 wide tire, At least that is the max I would run.

that's what i figured.

also, i found the exact wheel/BS/size,etc. in either black or bare metal finish. what would it cost to have these chromed???? has anybody ever done this????

The wider tire will hold it's bead better on the narrow rim because it's tighter.

That said, there are lots of people using 40's, 42's & 44's on Hummer wheels which are 8.25" wide. :wink1:

ok, well are you aware even though they have 1.75" more backspacing the wheel is 2" wider putting it .25" further out, so the 10" wheel will be further out, however with the way the tire will look from one wheel to the other they would stick out the same on each one? If you're runnin them on the street the 10" wheel will make the tread wear more evenly, but if its on the trail most of the time then it really doesn't matter. no sense repeating what everyone else already said so i'll stop here

right now i have a 37'' by 13.5'' wide tire on my 15 by 8'' rim and air down to 8 lbs and run all over the beach no problems

this is not entirely true. depending on the sidewall height of the tire the bead may not seat properly on too narrow of a wheel.

you can mount any width tire on a hummer wheel and not have problems because the inner beadlock ring holds the beads in place.

to narrow a wheel will give you an unstable feeling on the road and wear the center out faster.

liking the look of tires sticking out is fine but the further you push them out the less turning ability you have, more wear on the bearings and balljoints, and more likely they are to rub.

what he said. A wider tire on a more narrow wheel will wear out the center lugs faster at street psi.

ok, im sold...im gonna order the 4.25BS 15x10's! thanks guys!!!!! ill just have to grind(more)on the caliper when i get my D60front. owell. thanks again!!!!

or you can just run 3/4 ton brakes on the 60. all you need is the brackets. everything else swap over from a 8 lug 44 or 10 bolt. really helpful if you get a 60 that nees brakes anyways and the rotors, caliper, lines and pins are good on your current axle.

wouldn't i have weaker stubs then???? i didn't realize brakes were compatable between a 60 and a 10bolt/44

only the rotor and caliper change, not the hubs and stubs.

think about it, the bolt pattern is the same, whats to stop you from pressing the studs out of the 60 rotor and back into a 44 rotor. go over to pirate, there is a write up about it somewhere.

this is just one vendor who sells them.

I can't do all the work for you. :D

i know, i know, i was actually just on pirate lookin it up as you posted this....thanks alot man....i really appreciate it

if I had know about it when I got my 60 and not also needed SRW I would be running 3/4 ton brakes since all the stuff off my 44 was good and its lighter.

it is for sure what i will be doing one i test the limits of my 10bolt :) i already have the stuff to go 3/4 ton on my 10bolt....so i may as well install it you know. i have the lift/brakes/14FF/etc...and am going to order wheels and highsteer soon, and you will be seeing a built thread from me shortly. thanks again guys!!!!

oh yeah, anybody have any shots of wheels with 4.25BS(head on shots) so i can see how much the tires stick out.

I prefer grinding the D60 brakes and keeping them. They do a much better job stopping the truck...especially with 40's.

15x10 rims with 2.5-2.75" BS are pretty common, when I was looking they were more common than a 15x8 rims with that backspacing.

And yes, you can put a 15.5" wide tire on an 8" rim. I personally know people with 35", 39.5", and 42" Swampers that are all 15.5" wide that were run on 8" wide rims. Now granted they are all trail vehicles but they do see some pavement, and one truck has ran at least several thousand miles on the highway with no issues or unusual wear patterns on the tires. As mentioned, generally the narrower rims will keep the tires on the bead better. The guy with the 42's runs single digit air pressures on the trail in a 7,000 lb. truck and beats on it hard and has never unseated a tire.

so you guys think a 38.5X15R16 bogger will fit fine on a 16X7 wheel with weld-on beadlock(thus making it ~8"wide) ?

Yes. I know a guy running that size tire on a 16x8 (Heep w/ D60's and coilovers front and rear). He's been flogging it for probably a couple years now on the trail and also drives it on the road some just for fun...no problems.
