1/2 ton status
I may pick up a vehicle such as a 2001 Crown Victoria. From Houston Texas and im wondering if the 90 Suburban 4x4 half ton can tow it with a 700r4 Transmission with a open trailer from houston to new orleans

..Having it delivered might end up being cheaper than if the Suburban decides to lunch the transmission, or suffer some other major malfunction...then you'd have TWO vehicles to get towed home!....
Hitch.:It depends on whether or not it breaks. I would definitely recommend a different vehicle....instead of a Crown Vic.
Trans temp gauge? Fluid cooler? Hitch rating? Load distributing setup? Trailer brake controller? Working trailer brakes? Going slow is a given, but remember you'll be in 3rd gear. What gear ratio? That route is fairly flat, right?
It has a transmission cooler tooIt depends on whether or not it breaks. I would definitely recommend a different vehicle....instead of a Crown Vic.

Actually the crown victoria is good i just rather pick it up thn drive it to new orleans. Or just take a bus and pick it up amd drive it to new orleansIt depends on whether or not it breaks. I would definitely recommend a different vehicle....instead of a Crown Vic.

Just afraid of towing that far away from houston to new orleans. It did tow a car by rope one time in baton rouge for 4 in a half miles with the last 700r4 transmission back in 2014.I towed a 25 foot bunkhouse travel trailer with an half ton 4X4 suburban, lifted with 33's, all over the place. San Diego to Yosemite was about 8 hours. I'm sure the trailer was bumping 6000 pounds.
It had a 700r4. Never had a problem.
I wonder how many gas station stops i will have to take from new orleans to houston not loaded and back loaded with the crown victoria on a trailer. Also this 700r4 does not have over which will be fixed soon since i have a warrentyI towed a 25 foot bunkhouse travel trailer with an half ton 4X4 suburban, lifted with 33's, all over the place. Basically the 700r4 acts like a turbo 400 even still in the overdrive gear selectedI towed a 25 foot bunkhouse travel trailer with an half ton 4X4 suburban, lifted with 33's, all over the place. San Diego to Yosemite was about 8 hours. I'm sure the trailer was bumping 6000 pounds.

I gotcha. However the 700r4 in oberdrive doesnt kick in overdrive. The max i can go is 60 to 65 mph and its been that way since it left the shop a couple of months ago which it will be back soon since i still have the warrenty. It basically acts like a turbo 400 in overdrive. The max speed in 3rd gear is 45 to 50 mph high rpmJust don't tow in overdrive, and you should be fine. Towing in OD is a trans killer!
I towed approx 6500 lbs from Vancouver BC to Edmonton AB with my K5. A grossly overloaded utility trailer with tools and garage/shop stuff. My Blazer was 700R4, 3.42's and 35's with the TBI 350. It did just fine in Drive through the mountains. My biggest issue was trailer sway, which is exactly what you'd expect when you overload a single axle trailer...
The shifter link is good and the tv cable is adjusted correctlyWait, I'm confused. "The max i can go is 60-65" and "The max speed in 3rd gear is 45-50 mph high rpm". Overdrive is 4th gear. If it doesn't go into overdrive your max speed and the max speed in 3rd gear should be the exact same speed.
I really think, based on what you have posted in this thread, that you need to get your trans issues sorted. Towing with a potentially hurt 700R4 is like playing Russian Roulette with 6 live rounds.
Regarding the trans, is the shifter linkage adjusted properly? Is the TV cable set correctly? Does the TCC work properly? If you have warranty on this trans why are you waiting to get it repaired/corrected?
No. And youre right. I might as well jut catch a bus to houston and pick it up since tickets are cheaper than gasSo why doesn't overdrive work? If there's something wrong with it already that makes towing seem like a worse idea. Is the torque converter lockup working?
A 700 is more like a 350 than a 400.
I'll ask again: Trans temp gauge? Fluid cooler? Load distributing setup? Trailer brake controller? Working trailer brakes? What gear ratio? That route is fairly flat, right?
You're not thinking of doing it without trailer brakes are you?
