Can axle fluid expand in extreme heat situations?

I'm sure it gets a lot hotter just driving down the road

3 faps is more than enough. 4 is way too many

Pull the drainplug and let at least one fap drain out...

The amount of gear lube the axletubes can hold is pretty minimal with the shafts installed. I agree that the manufacturer never designed the axle with some of the things we do to it in mind, but going 0.5 mph for 10 feet shouldn't hurt the wheel bearings any no matter what angle the truck is at.

There is a big difference between highway usage and extreme off camber situations.

keep in mind that Avery uses his truck the first way while most of us use our trucks both ways or the latter way.

We just went 1200 miles with a non over filled 14bsf

600 miles non-stop one day. 300 and 300 on the way back. Pulling a 9000# trailer at 55-60

That's about that hardest hardcore highway you can get :haha:

Agreed, I was just throwing my 2 cents in:D . I prolly would not do any damage to my axle filled to spec just like I dont feel I will do any damage to it overfilled. Personal Preference really.

The only problem with overfilling is potential aeration of the gear oil. I asked before on this very topic, don't know as anyone really answered. How could you know, short of running a clear cover I suppose.

Perhaps gear oil is very resistant to aeration, so it doesn't matter, but if you get bubbles in oil, it's a poor lubricant.

Seems that people overfill the axles often enough, and long enough, (for whatever reason) that it's not really a problem whether the fluid is aerating or not.

Does any one else think gear oil smells good?

I don't know if it would make a difference or not but weight oil are you running? Would the weight of the oil make it run hotter?
