To The Top...

The problem with Sticky's is people skip right on by them without reading them.

Rene
How about when you click on the garage, it automatically goes to the sticky? Then make everyone click an agreement check box.

Then if they fail to follow the rules after the check box has been checked, Then I wouldnt even give a warning, I would just give away 3 day passes all day without explaining myself.

b/c that would be a PITA to have to click through stuff every time you wanted to go into the garage...

1 extra click isnt so bad when this has become such a problem in the free garage.

yeah but think about what happens anywhere else...if you mess up with your house payment, car payment, bank, basically any "contract" that you sign they aren't going to be like "oh we're sorry, we didn't flash it in front of your face a 1000x so we'll just let this one slide"....

Its the responsibility of people to read the rules and know whats up. Plus its not like you are banned forever, trust me, if the mods start banning people for not paying attention people will get the idea real quick.

We have a winner...

One problem I've noticed is if the person in need is not a member. Lets say I had something they might need. Well I cant pm them or e-mail them cause they are not a paying member, what do i do now?

Then they should look into becoming a paying member.

There have been occasions, but the situation is straightened out, or the offenders get dealt with.

i've seen several threads where someone asks a question (example: opinions on lockrite) and, AFTER giving advice, someone might mention they have one for sale in the classifieds/ebay/craigslist/etc. and might even post the link. that doesn't bother me any, and can actually be helpful, IMO. Do those guys get a "vacation" too?

That person will receive the standard warning. If it's a repeat offense then I'll recommend a suspension. If it continues on after that I'll recommend the brass section.

Your SOL. Non paying members need to pony up like the rest of us if they expect the real benefits and the help that come with being a full fledged member of the board. The garage is strictly for Tech. That's just the way it is.

You guys are not little children, by now you know that there are rules & guidelines everywhere you go in life. This board is no different. Either accept it or move on. What was it that CamsK5 used to say, "You won't be missed, we'll split up your gear and press on."

For the 5% that are complaining there are another 95% that understand how things work in the world. Thank Jebus for them because they make this job worth the constant repetitive effort.

Top.

Like it was said earlier alot of the times when this happens it is a non-paying member. I know people have asked to buy things from me before. I never responded in the thread though.
I think some people are impatient so they bypass the proper methods because it's faster that way. Or they just don't think it is that big of a deal. Either way I can see how it could be an annoyance. I really don't think this will be able to be stopped completely because of the amount of users joining everyday. I dont see a way to enforce this or make it known to all the people that join this board on a daily basis.
I really dont see how banning would help? Does the problem really lie with the members? If you are a user and you get banned you could just create a new account and move on.
Well I'm not sure if that made sense to y'all but it did to me..:o

no they put a ban on the IP address which sucks b/c ISP's like AOL supposedly assign you a fresh address each time you log on, so if you ban one IP you potentially ban a handful of other people who might want to join...again, slim chance but still. Its just a PITA.

Plus it doesn't take long for people's true colors to shine through so its pretty easy to spot the a-holes when they create a new account...

Foe whatever it's worth if a user has been banned making a new account is cause for an immediate ban again. There have been guys that have re-registered sucessfully and flew under the radar for a while...but eventually we find em and they get banned again.

Does the problem lie with the members? Ummm yeah...we enforce the rules here, the rules are posted, so if someone is breaking the rules I say the problem lies with them...not us.

How many speeding tickets have you gotten out of by claiming ignorance, or claiming the limit in that area is too slow (in your opinion of course)?

BTW, I'll be doing an IP search on your account now to "see what I can see". If I find you've been previously banned you will be banned once more...;)

Go for it. I thought i had a decent point but i guess not. I didnt know giving an honest opinion would have this kind of response from a mod..

Chill out, brother. This "buying and selling in the Garage" issue has become a royal pain the ass for us lately, so you'll have to excuse us if we seem pissy about it.

Trust me, your outlook on this would totally change if you had to deal with this on a daily basis. :deal:
