Can't get 208 filler bolt out...

I'm just that strong yo :D

Yeah its weird, I've never run into this on a 208. And I've had several through the years. I'll stick the impact gun to her. Which will prob crack the case. Lol!

The filler plug on my NP208 was a beotch to get out too, when I attempted to remove it...someone evidently torqued it up REAL good when they filled it last before I got the truck...the fact the plug has very thin hex surface for the socket to grab dont help a bit either, and its brass so it rounds over quite easily...

I didn't have a socket that large that fit good, and my large adjustible wrench just threatened to round it off worse,so I looked thru all my tools trying to find something that would work,I ended up using a ainciecnt stilson wrench that was probably my dads that was made in the 20's,by using the tips of its jaws ,which look like a pipe wrench's jaws but are square and smooth and aren't spring loaded...I was about ready to just drill the dam plug and tap it for 1/4" pipe, if I failed to get it out and just put a pipe plug in it...it would have made filling it a lot harder though, with the smaller hole...

Did that last week trying to get ring gear bolts out. My wife is watching me, I'm sitting there swearing at the thing, and then it dawns on me, oh yeah, left hand threads!:doah:

I don't have a pipe wrench, but I've got a big set of vise grips that come in handy for things like this. Just as long as you're planning on replacing the bolt.

My current rig had the same problem when I got it. I went to do a full service after the purchase and the last guy had rounded the thing beyond repair. I couldn't get a pipe wrench or vice grips to grab so I ended up hitting/notching the outside edge with a chisel at an angle toward the center and counter-clockwise and beat it with a small sledge hammer. The concussion from the hammer finally broke it loose and after a couple full rotations I could get some grips on it.

I always wondered why New Process didn't use a thicker hex head on those.

Impact gun took er out in short order. Nice to have access to company tools every now and then.

And , as I suspected, she was almost a quart and half low...

At least it was a bolt.....

Many many years ago, I was walking by a piece of equipment and a guy was cussing and sweating trying to get a big bolt head loose.

It was a big cast iron housing, and he had taken some other bolts off already. What he did not know, was that there were some hex head castings on the housing.

I don't know why they were on there, either some kind of strengthener, or maybe a sprue in the sand mold.
What ever the reason, there was enough grease and dirt on it that he thought one of the castings was a bolt, and had been working on it for about two hours..........

I was really glad he did not get it loose........

Dueling................. so are you saying this is left handed threads ????

I think he was poking fun at OP.
