Can't get air out of cooling system need help ASAP!!!

I mean, or just drill an 1/8 bleed hole in the thermostat like the rest of the civilized world.[/QUOTE]

Now I offended!!!! Talking about "Civilized World" and your from the other sided of the Del river...Pfffff......I've been to south NJ.

Just kidding. I take it as a complement being call uncivilized...Kinda like being call hillbilly and redneck.....I'll take it

Your new thermostat is probably bad. Drop it in 180 degree water on the stove and make sure it opens. I like the hi-flow mr gasket ones becase they seem to let some thru if they stick.

You can use a meat thermometer to check temp of stove water.

If youre low on fluid or have an air bubble your gauge will go up and down and up and down.

Here's a follow up: Ended up pulling the thermostat and driving home the next morning with no issues. However since then I haven't reinstalled a new thermo (or checked the oid one for that matter). However I'm pretty sure I ruined my head gaskets from that initial overheating as my truck is intermittently overheating now with no thermostat installed... Ls swap is moving up the list again.

It can overheat without a thermostst too, because the coolant flows too fast through the radiator to cool off enough...
Moroso makes special washers that provide enough restriction to avoid that for racers who don't like running a thermostat..
