put new gas tank on after old one was bad. let it sit before putting new tank on for a yr. now it wont start. put gas in carb and she fires fine, then dies off. lost here except it beong the mech pump.

the mechanical fuel pump is the most likely cause. they have a rubber diaphragm in them they go bad easily even when used everyday rubber and gas dont play well together. other possible causes is when gasoline sits it gels and turns to varnish and can clog fuel lines, filters and float bowls. replace the pump go from there about $22 at your local parts house.
