Had to post this in the garage because I know this forum is active these hours. My 92 K2500 will not budge. I can feel it when I put it into gear, that it is not the tranny. But I'm flooring it in reverse and it absolutely will not move. What would cause my brakes to completely lock and not let me get outta my driveway? Gonna go and start working on it and I'll come back and check.

Release the parking brake? :haha: sounds silly even as I say it but for years I never had a working parking brake. Often, even now, the brake will be set when I go to move, and for a second Ill have a "WTF"? moment.

I wish that's what it was. That would make my night. Master cylinder?

I just put a new tranny in my 89, I put it in reverse and about **** myself when it wouldn't move...I forgot to put the transfer case in 2wd, it was in netural, therefore it would not move, check that. Did you do anything to it? did you just get out and get back in and it did it? little more info would help.

I was working on some wiring in the cab and bumped the 4x4 lever into netural. an hour later i jumped in my truck to go somewhere and couldnt move. ten minutes later i found out what i did

I drove through some water a couple of days ago. It wasn't anything major, just a neighborhood street during a thunderstorm. It's been in my driveway since then and today when I tried to leave in it, it wouldn't budge. I lifted the front up and tried to turn the tires. Could only turn the drivers side, so I took the passenger side apart and pushed the piston back. Put it back together, and made sure it would turn manually. When I started it back up, still wouldn't move.

Ok so you are saying the front caliper was stuck, but did you check the rear brakes? If they are locked you may have the same problem. If it is four wheel drive, try putting it in 4 low and see if it will at least move a little, either forward or reverse. If not, you are looking at pulling all the brakes to find out the problem.

drove through water and then let it sit. Maybe the shoes rusted to the drums?

So a disc brake swap for the rear,,err, take the drums apart. Can I just clean things up a bit or is a trip to the parts store in order?

Until you tear into it, it would be hard to say for certain. If you are lucky some brake clean would probably at least get you moving, but you may be in for some new shoes.

Sounds like a stuck drum. My freind had the same exact thing a few weeks ago. She could drive forward very slowly, but couldnt back up. I pulled the drum apart, cleaned everything up, lubed the cable and she hasnt had any problems since.

Try going forward. Mine tended to stick after sitting overnight after getting wet, so I would "rock" the truck a bit until they broke free, but a manual transmission doesn't give the brakes much choice in the matter. :)

Many times you can just "pop" the drums free by giving a good kick to the accelerator pedal. Not enough so that it breaks free and you fly out into the street.
