Ok, my cap is leaking slightly from the corners where the horizontal part of the cap and the vertical part of the cap meet at the 90 degree angle by the doors.

The Horizontal piece of WS looks like it is curving up before it gets to the very corner where it looks like its leaking, and the vertical pieces come straight down, behind the horizontal piece, but there is a gap between them, what is wrong, and how can I fix it?

Will post pictures of it momentarily, just have to get the cap flpped over to take pictures, lol. Heavy and akward sucker.

new ws may be the answer...those things tend to dry rot...try lmctruck.com and you should be able to get replacement ws

Yea, with what little experience that ive had with WS, its always the same problem, so expensive, lol. I have to get another LMC mag, my mother cleaned up and it magically went missing, lol.

yea, i think WS has lost its mojo, check jc whitney, i've order ws from them and it arrived in soft seal brand box and sleeve

Thought I had a fix with some thickish pad thats sticky on one said, laid it out on the truck in the corner where its leaking, hope was when cap wasput back on, it would squish down on it and not let water in, either I missed something or it just failed..

Anyone replace their weather stripping on a K5cap?
Ordering a LMC mag now, wondering how much this is going to cost me, and does anyone have a picture of the corners of the cab with good WS? Not sure if its supposed to be curved like mine is, or come straight and meet in the corner?

Thanks alot
-Steve-

P.s. I also went to LMC and ordered a catalog and looked to price he WS for the cap, I only see door WS, does anyone know where I can buy it for the cap???

from my experience with the lmc weatherstripping for the top its a waste of money. it didnt fit right. it was too short. it was cheaply made. and it still leaked. check out cheyennepickup.com theyre extremely knowledgeable in our trucks when i called and they have just about everything and include pictures of what your getting. might colst a tad more idr but it was definitely worth using them. shoulda used them in the first place

The weatherstripping may cost a bit more, but it is still available from the dealer. Based on my experience with the aftermarket stuff, get the original stuff, you will be much happier. The savings aren't really savings if the stuff only lasts for a year or two.

I just picked up ALL the topper weatherstripping from dealer, its available. DO NOT go thru GMpartsdirect. The WS was cheap thru them, but they made up for it by doubling what the shipping would cost. for example the weatherstripping was 190bux thru them, but they were going to charge me 250bux to ship them. Seriously. When I picked them up from the local dealer, the cost was about 250bux, no shipping and boxes were not that big at all, about the size of overgrown pizza boxes. GMpartsDirect can go piss up a rope, freakin thieves.

Ok I just got my LMC mag, prices dont look THAT horendous..

But here is my question, whenI take my cap off, the WS along the length of the cab comes with the cap, but along the curved part of the cab it stays on the truck.

Am I supposed to have WS on the curved part of the CAP and the TRUCK? Looks like the sell both in the Mag.

Also, along the Striaght part of the truck, my WS comes off with the cab, in the MAG it looks like it stays on the truck,WTH?

So what SHOULD I have? And is it different then what came with the truck originally???

Thanks alot
-Steve-

There are two pieces, one on cab and one on top. That is the design, and the catalog can be a bit deceiving. Just remember, you get what you pay for in the LMC stuff.

x2.

LMC may sell you good stuff, or it may be complete junk. Haven't had that much luck with them myself on weatherstripping. GM parts are unquestionably the best value out there, if you want pieces that fit and will actually work for years.

Two pieces for all three sides right? The two horizontal and the one curved, so 6 pieces of WS all together??

And I can buy GM stuff at a GMdealer? Or online somewhere?

You can get the GM stuff from any GM dealer, and it is going to be higher quality than anything aftermarket. A quick search on the site can give you some part numbers.

You keep mentioning three pieces, but on mine and all the others I have dealt with, there are two pieces of WS. One goes on the cab, the other goes on the top. If yours is broken at the corners it may appear to be three pieces, but is actually one.

There are a total of 3 true pieces of weatherstrip on a top, one down each side, and the one piece that meets the cab.

For reference here are the GM parts numbers from another thread:

358589 - Driver's side Weatherstrip may be same number for both sides
357490 - On cab weatherstrip
15590455 - On top weatherstrip

These are GM's part numbers for the seals.

By three pieces, I meant the two down each side and one that meets the top, sorry if I was unclear.

Now, in all three of those locations,am I supposed to have WS on both the truck and the cap??

Thanks alot, I know im proably being pretty dense in this topic, im just confused based on what I have, what LMC sells, and what people tell me, lol.

There is one strip down each bedrail (attached to the top), there is one on the cab, and there is one on the top. Don't forget there is the one that the tailgate glass slides into, but this is not available from GM anymore.

Also, there is a butyl rubber strip (or something similar) running from the inside edge of the B pillar, where the cab meets the bed, angled towards the rear, to keep water that makes it between the two cab seals draining off the bed rail instead of inside. This IS important. Not sure if GM always used it, but as the seals age, they will start to leak a bit, and this keeps the water out.

Quick question, there is NO weather stripping running down the bedrail on the truck itself? It is only on the top? LMC has it on the truck itself is why I ask.

IIRC, and as your pictures show, the weatherstripping on the cap is screwed at either end, so no, nothing on the bedrail. At least not on the "half" removable tops, as opposed to the earlier K5's with the entire roof that comes off, which I have no idea how they were sealed on the bedrail. Probably the same way.

Bedrail weatherstripping actually has two sealing surfaces, anyway.

Has anyone ordered the bedrail weather stripping from LMC? In the pictures its on the truck and not the cap, just want to make sure im not going to be wasting my money.

What do you mean the bedrail weather stripping had two sealing surfaces? Two pieces of weather stripping on the cap?

No, the weatherstripping on the cap that seals to the bedrail has a "channel" down the center, so there are two round portions on either side that seal what is essentially the inner and outer sides of the bedrail. All one seal, but since it's so wide, and has the two sealing surfaces, another gasket wouldn't make sense.
