Anyone have links to auto alarms that have wifi or 3G built in to send me email when the alarm sounds? I found a few from overseas companies but nothing from any of the reputable brands in the US.

You don't need an alarm now that your car has been stolen. :doah:

In all reality, car alarms are pretty much ignored these days because of all the "false alarms". Do yourself one better and get yourself a LoJack installed and IF the vehicle gets stolen you will get it back fairly quick (depending on how long before you notice it missing). I've got them on my cars and now pretty much have piece of mind knowing that IF they get stolen I have a 99% chance of getting it back and quite possibly finding the person who is in posession of it and having them prosecuted for grand theft.

This would be for the blazer. ;) Lojack is an option, but I am curious if a lower cost option exists that would let the alarm send an email over my wifi network when it goes off. Even better if it had a webcam on it and could include a picture of the perp who was driving it.

For the k5, the email/text message alarm would be to wake me up since my cell phone is on me and turned on 24/7. I'd hear the email beep before the car alarm.

LoJack is good in theory. However, the reality is:

1. Not all areas have coverage. Therefore, check before you buy.

2. Car thieves are getting smarter. Since they know cars have Lojack, they will steal it and strip it in a few hours. By the time you get to it when you wake up in the morning, it's too late. Otherwise, they steal it and park it for a week to see if anyone comes for it.

3. If I were to get an alarm, I would want one that has GPS and Geo Fencing. Now, if you are really serious about this, look for an app called InstaMapper. You can buy a cheap cell phone and hook it up to the software. Then it will track your car in near real time. It is far from perfect, there are a few "gotchas", and you have to pay a monthly service fee. But if you're that sure your car is going to get stolen that may be a help.

I've had a lot of car alarms before so I know most of the problems. Im looking for something that:
1. works as a visible theft deterrent like having a flashing light and making noise when the door is opened.
2. When the alarm does sound, email or text me.
3. Will let someone locate it if it is actually taken.

I don't need motion sensors, or any of the other sensors. I only want to know when the doors actually open. I've found some online but they require monthly fees for the gps tracking and cellular portion. That's why I was looking or something with wifi that can use my own wireless network to send me an email when the alarm sounds while it's still in my driveway. Once it's gone, I could use a gps tracking service like lojack.

Maybe a simple security camera and conventional alarm is the more realistic option for something without monthly fees.

When I leave one of my trucks somewhere that I don't like i often simply pull a certain relay under the hood.

It will crank all day but not start:D

For newer fi trucks I have thought about putting a manual switch to the crank position sensor and hiding the switch...

I have a police siren and pa with the full works and the biggest outdoor horn speaker radio shack had, I have debated with rigging it to go off when a door opened or if 12 volts went to the ignition with a keyless type alarm.

The speaker is a good 5 times larger than a alarm horn and the amp in the unit along with a real police siren would work wonders for getting attention.. hell while im at it I could have it turn my emergency strobes on too:haha:
