carb question-Edelbrock or Holley

Ive got an edelbrock 1406 im lookin to sell soon as i find a winter beater and park the blazer. Got a new rebuild kit, new offroad needle package, new float package, and a really nice edelbrock rebuild manual. All sitting new in a box except for the carb thats on my truck. I just dont care to rebuild it and i want a qjet for the steep sand dunes, really didnt have much problems climbing with it, just know it needs rebuilding and i want a new carb. If somebody wants it pm me an offer for everythin. Wont be off for a month or so most likely unless i find a new ride shortly.

To Folken....I ended up just pulling the motor and going nuts on the thing. It was a combo of heads and rings causing my oil consumption. I will actually be finishing up that thread as soon as I get the truck done. I am doing a bunch of fun stuff to it and it will be one hell of rig when I'm done.

I totally want the EZ efi that you have. I'm glad to hear that you have it and that you like it. I was going to get it but the cash is running thin so it will have to wait a while. What kind of mileage do you get with it?

I guess I'll make a couple of calls to SMI, or Jet to see about a rebuild for the Q jet. If I can't figure any thing out for it I will maybe just get a holley and try it for awhile till I can get the EFI. Been looking at the that Ultra Double Pumper with all aluminum body and electric choke.

With my combo in my sig I get about 10 - 11 in the highway, 7-8 in the city, and on the sand beating on it...I get 3 :D.

I have some info on the fuel system/etc in my build thread if you decide to go that route.

Also, there are at least 3 of us on this forum that have it now, so far everyone that tries it likes it.

If I were you I would just change the metering rods/jets on the carb you have to make it a little leaner based on your dyno session, and save the money until you can get the EFI if you really want it.

Those Holley Ultras are nice, especially the HPs, but that's a big chunk toward EFI.

Isn't this just like asking who you like better . Ford, Chevy or Dodge. Everyone has their prefference.

I hate Holley because of their piss poor customer service. Had issues with their remanned Qjets years back and will never touch another Holley product or any of their affiliates.

Have had great luck with stock Qjets but I seem to have to mess with them more often.

I really like the eddies I've ran and have seen them do amazing things. Hell I think Stormtrooper could run his upside down:haha: With how he has his tuned in he kept up with every EFI's rig in Moab so well I thought he was fuel injected when I was bogging out all over the place:dunno:

ive been using my edelbrock 1406 for 12 years now.rebuilt it using the off road kit and it made a big difference.i know everyone hates them for some reason, but mines been flawless and reliable for years.no problems climbing hills or bouncing on rocks and trails.get about 12 mpg highway and 8 in town but its a 5000 pound truck on 35s and 3/4 ton axles.built 355 and it keeps it happy.with bigger jets it would keep a big block happy as well.if you got a couple grand extra fuel injection would be nice to put on there.youd never have to worry about stalling it out when properly calibrated.

Ok well I decided to send my Edelbrock Q jet off to SMI for rebuilding and tuning. 225.00 bucks for a stage 2 build and they needed just about every bit of information regarding my truck so it's gotta be a good choice eh....

All I know is that it's certainly going to be better than it was and if I can maxmize my mileage all the better and It'll save me some bucks till I can get injection.

The QJ may work out well enough that you may question if you really need FI. Don't get me wrong, I'd still like FI for my BBC but it would be too hard on my budget (or rather lack of budget) and I probably won't be able to go FI. That said, I'm quite happy with the QJ so it won't be a huge issue.

I think that sounds like a good plan, if you like it great, if you still want EFI, you didn't break the bank in the meantime.

Exactly, it'll get me through the winter, save some cash for sure.

Still thinking the Fast EFI is the way to go but I must say that MSD setup is tempting. I'd be interested to see how much the MSD setup goes for
