Ive got a chance to buy a 5.3 set up to run a carb, anyone here done this in a k5? I know i need the msd 6010 box to control it, what else?

electric fuel pump .

all engine drive brackets and acc like alt / p/s pump .

possible flexplate/flywheel spacer for the older tranny stuff when you bolt it up .

exhaust manifold or headers will be different.

all bolts / nuts / sensor holes are METRIC on ls based motors.

sure there is a few more I forgot .

He's got it bolted to a 350 turbo, so i assume that he has everything i need to bolt it to my 700r4?

best way if you ask me is the intank pump with external regulator on it .

don't forget ls motors have tourqe management software for a reason in the computer . limits the power so you don't fry a tranny basicly . make sure your 700r4 is up to the task at hand with the ls .

heresy....

Good friend had one in a S10 race truck.

Assuming its already bolted to a TH350, yes it should have the necessary spacer unless it's got a customer converter built.

K30 is correct about the sensors being metric, that's an easy hurdle tho.. coolant sensor adapter is 8$ and you can use a standard sending unit at that point.

Oil pressure is cake, drill and tap the OEM sender, or the oil filter port on the oil pan. Both work the same, I've done both, but now run the OEM sender due to wanting the line farther away from my headers.

Your stock TBI pump should be adequate for a carb, just get a regulator and turn it down to the 8-9 PSI or whatever carbs require.

On another point, I second carbs on LS is a backwards notion..

For me the real advantage to the ls engines is the fuel injection.

If I were to do it, it would have to be a really good deal, like I need an engine and this one is free, for it to be worth it to do all the work of a swap without getting the benefits of fi.

I guess there are lots of benefits to the ls engines like serpentine, roller cam etc. but after swapping one myself I don't think its worth it if you don't get the fi too.:dunno:

On another note tho, he can always do the swap carb. Then save for the fuel injection components.

Then it's just buying a harness, bigger pump, and changing his lines.

I almost did this, but passed on a 5.3 in favor of waiting for my first 6.0

The guy wants $800 for a 5.3 with a c5 zo6 cam, push rods and valve springs,he already has a victory jr intake bolted to it.He's also throwing in a 350 turbo with a b&m shift kit.

Some people like to keep things simple. That 5.3 will run just fine with the carb and make good power, plus sounds like a good deal. Fuel injection would be an easy swap down the road if he wants to go that route.

How about running a carb to TBI adapter?

Not port injection, but still injected. A huge hassle on an LS?

I don't think it's ever been done, even the carb systems still rely on the ls cam/crank sensor to control timing curves.

If he found a way to wire those into his tbi harness, then found somewhere/somebody who could tune it. Maybe?

But at that point it's entirely too much of a headache, and another 2 steps backwards.
