Cardan joint how to replace the CV?

I think I’m going to lap this in with some valve lapping compound and see if it straightens out. It doesn’t appear to be broken.

It must have been the ujoints failing causing it to chatter hence the debris. Going to slap it all together and if worst case scenario the noise is still present it’s going to the driveline shop. It was super dry inside with no grease which could be the cause as well.

your is a slip yoke and this is a flange but same basic head design .

you can see your mystery part is suppose to be part of the slip yoke or flange not loose like you have .

looking at your parts more it looks like it was broken and run this way for a bit .

That would make all the sense. I was super confused because the inside of the head where this sits was beveled like it was supposed to ride in there freely which confused the hell out of me. Would make sense that it’s supposed to be stationary. Maybe there was a bearing race in there at one time. Definitely not there anymore

Yeah, I have a feeling the PO ran it this way for a very long time. When I went to check it out he said the engine ran really rough and that it vibrates like crazy. I knew it was the ujoints on the test drive. Still got a killer deal but this won’t be solved today. Haha

I contacted the company who made this drive shaft set up in hopes they can make a replacement yoke if not she’s going to be sitting for at least a month until I get time off work.

That ball is removable and is part of a rebuild kit.
If the pin it fits on is bent you need a new cv.
If it's not and you can slid a ball on it you can rebuild it.
My driveshafts place sells those kits.

Ended up being completely broken. The socket is supposed to be attached to the yoke..... it was sheered off

I kinda figured but wasn't sure, my phone doesn't show me enough in the pictures.
But yeah a ujoints change on a cv is almost never enough.
