It's a 3406:D There just very well put together long lasting and powerful

oh sorry about :doah:that there is one in the shop where i work at and there all drooling over just wondering

Isn't the 3406 the same engine that's in the "new" 11M RHIBs that the SBU dudes are using now? If so they Rock. The SRM30's (Iveco) in the old "I" boats were a royal pain in the A$$!

RHIB - Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boat

SBU - Special Boat Unit??? Not sure about this one...

11M=11 Meter long
RHIB= Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat
SBU=Special Boat Unit/ SWCC Special Warfare Combat Crewman
"I" Boat= Intermediate
Both of these boats have the engines side by side directly coupled to the jet drive units. Both flat haul the bootay.

maybe not the 3406 it's a big MF very heavy the 3206 is pretty potent more sized to something like that but nearly 33 feet it might just be 3406.....or one of it's derivitives

Is the 3406 400HP? If so,that's it.
yeah most likely I've seen some rated to nearly 700hp The "Black Dog" had a 4 and a 1/4 ....425hp . Do you have any pics of the boat your speaking of sounds pretty cool

They made many different power levels. Even both the early A and B versions came in different power versions. The later electronic versions were really varied. I've seen 3406E's in the neighborhood of 550HP in an OTR truck. They are one of the best truck engines of all time, next to the Series 60 detroit, Big Cam Cummins, and N14 cummins.

I've been driving trucks for over 12 years and have driven many different types of trucks and engines. My favorite as far as power/torque and all around grunt has always been the CAT's.

I used to drive a 94 Pete with a 425 B model CAT that at the time was over 6 years old with over 800,000 miles on it. I was moving along I40 in NM with this other driver who had a brand new Detroit Series 60 rated at just over 500 hp, had been raving up and down for the last hundred or so miles about this engine. How great it was, how well it pulled, fuel mileage, blah blah blah.

I'm loaded to the hilt, scaling out just over 79,500 pulling a flatbed. We start to go up this slight grade and he starts slowing down, so I pull out to go around him. I say to him, come on lets go, get that Detroit moving, I thought you said it could pull. He says to me he was letting the cruise control take him up. I just laughed at him and said "yeah right, excuses excuses" as I waved at him as I went by him.

My favorite had to have been my 2001 Pete, it had a C-15 CAT(newer version of the 3406E)that was putting out over 500 hp hooked up to an Eaton Fuller 18 speed. She flew.

By the way, not to offend anyone, but that movie "Blackdog" sucked from a driver's point of view. I know it's just Hollywood, but, yack.

Didn't the W-900 from Smokey and the Bandit have a 3406?? or was it the 3408 ? with a 13 I'm a Peterbilt fan to the bone but that was a badass K-whopper And no offense to any one But Detroits suck..... All of them the 60 series just suck a little less. Cummins Or CAT all the way. Oh yeah and no damn super tens. I worked on 3456E while I was in the airforce very powerful and very user freindly

While the Detroit series 60's aren't the peppiest motors as far as power output, it is as durable, and in my opinion more durable and robust than most of the Cat's and Cummins.

In our fleet we have 11 Series 60's
2 M11's
1 N14
1 Big Cam
1 3406B
1 3306
1 3116
and a couple JD motors.

Our 60's have heald up to driver stupidity and mechanical problems better than any engine we have ever had, BUT, our little 3206 Cat will pull away from them in the hills. Our mileage record was a whopping 1.3 million out of an 11.1 sixty.
