I looked over at: www.cattruckengines.com but couldn't find any info on the 4116...
The 3116 specs they list are:
Used in 1989-2000
HP range from 170 - 300
TQ range from 420 - 732

When I searched for the 4116, only thing I came up with was a link to their battery catalog.

I ask this because I see a lot of medium duty trucks on eBay with 3116 engines.... Then I saw particular ad that listed it as a 4116 - so I'm guessing that must've been a typo.

Never heard of a 4116 in a medium duty truck before? Working at freightliner Ive seen 3116, 3126 and C7. Those are your most common cat engines in medium duty trucks. I think you can fit some of the larger one's if you have a bigger hood area. Maybe C10, C12, or 3176.
3116= CAT 3000 series engine, 1.1 liter per cylinder, six cylinders
Early 3116s were directly injected with unit injectors and were developed specifically for GM. Later, the 3116 got the HEUI fuel system. Around the same time, CAT came out with the 3126 to market to the rest of the Medium duty market. The 3126 then became "metric" and was called a C7. Currently the C7 uses the ACERT (advanced combustion emissions reduction technology) fuel/air control system.

The letters at the end of the engine model designate the next series of that engine. Like a 3406. You have a 3406A, 3406B first two series of 3406 are mostly mechanically controlled, like fuel pump and injectors. On the E model your ecm tells the injectors when to open based on what the sensors are telling it. Older models use just basic injector nozzels and fuel is controlled by the pump and pressure. When you get into the E series everything is electronically controlled. More sensors measuring fuel pressure, fuel temp, ambient air temp, compressor temp. More sensors, more things to break, but with stricter emissions and demand for higher horse power and fuel mileage the more complicated engines get.

Lets see a link to the post on pirate. Cat has never built an engine designated as a 4116. The 3116's are okay for light work, but in heavy load high hp (300 hp, 50,000 GVW) they fall apart like wet klenex. If you were thinking of putting one in a one ton, I would get a 3126B, or E with the higher flow 3 valve head and get it built to 450 HP marine specs with a water cooled turbo and an Air to air aftercooler. I think on a light load application the EGT's would still stay at a reasonable level.
