Cat Converter

nothing that's going to affect performance THAT noticable in a 6000+ lbs, truck.

if it's already on there, and evrything is running fine, leave it alone

What's inside of an 87 Blazer cat converter? Can I empty it? I have to have it for a visual to get an inspection sticker.

It is a Federal crime to "gut" a catalytic convertor. You can be subject to a 10K fine if you are found to have knowingly "gutted" the cat or modified any portion of an emissions device.

I worked in the aftermarket exhaust industry long ago and bench tested on our flow meter several vehicle cats, first in tact with as little flow as 650CFM then gutted flowing twice that. They were then reinstalled on the stock vehicles they came from with no performance gains. Thought id never say this but in light of the current smog laws comming to a state near you and eventually to yours compliments Calif, Id leave it alone unless your willing to pay for a new one someday. Ca smog checks are in many cases not accepting aftermarket cats on many vehicles and now its dealer only supplied replacements which are running $1000+ if you can find one. Just my $.02
