CB mounting.

If you don't have a headliner and are lazy like me I use velcro. Have for years.
That is also i good idea as well, never though about that. Would velcro hold mine? i have a cobra, one of the big ones with 1 million knobs and weather channels and all that crap.

All that effort in the mounting and you used wire caps?

Yep, but, look through the windshield, and you will see that I'm at my hunting camp in the river swamp.
That radio, like a lot of them, uses a Molex plug for power.
While I was putting the bracket in, I was also doing some mods on the radio. Got the bracket mounted, radio finished, but not in time to mount it.

Just tossed everything in the truck with my gear and headed out. When I got there, I mounted the radio, ran the Coax up to it, and some power wire, but had no way to hook the wire to the pigtail on the molex plug.

So, I just grabbed what was handy.

Later, after I got back home, I cleaned all that up. Attached a wire directly to the Molex plug and ran it back down.

What you can't see, is that the power wire is 12ga THHN wire like you would have in a house or running an AC motor........
That was all I had at the camp.

Fair enough. :)

Enough Velcro will hold anything.......:D

On rigid surfaces, a two inch square is rated at about 175lbs. The problem is the glue.
A lot of the early Velcro's glue was just not up to the task. Some of the commercial stuff these days is plenty strong enough.

But, if you do not have a double wall top, you might not want to do it. Even the new glues will get soft if they get hot.
Gluing them directly to the underside of the roof might not work in the hot sun........

With velcro use a little goop or gorilla glue if you are worried about it.

That's how I mounted my cb years ago in a harvester, single wall top never had an issue

According to my thermometer it was regularly 125 in that cab

I just screwed mine down to the dash. you can kinda see it in these pictures.

Man 175 lbs for 2 inchs!:eek1:

Im gonna have to go get some and try to velcro myself to the ceiling before i get over 175.

I was going to put mine in the dash where that "strip" normally is. The one that A/C trucks have vents on but non AC trucks just have a plastic strip that's always broken. Or in that storage space that really serves no purpose above the heater controls, but I was actually thinking of moving a double din touchscreen radio there with GPS (moving the heater controls somewhere else) and placing the CB where the radio used to be towards the bottom.

i mounted mine between driver seat and center storage thingy. works good, out of the way. but quiets speaker a bit

My CB mount

I attached mine to the tranny hump right in front of the 4WD shifter. The mic mounts to my dash next to the vent.
I didn't use any fancy wire nuts, I just use the cigarette lighter attachment. the plug is in the ashtray.

My antenna is mounted on my rear bumper.
Where's yours mounted?

I use firestrick.

I recomend the SS steel spring mount. I'ts very forgiving of tree branches & other trail obstacles.
