I met a hearing impaired guy who is a professional trucker a couple of years ago. I asked how is he getting through the CB; he described a CB wired to a monitor (not sure how it converts audio to video) so he is able to read everything that is spoken over the CB.
Unfortunately, I only met him once so I couldn't check out what product he is using.
I did a search twice, even with Pauly383 at his store and was unable to find it.

Any truckers or CB users in general know anything about it? I'm hearing impaired myself and would like to have one to talk to the locals.

EDIT: mods, feel free to move this somewhere where it will get attention. Thanks

This place also sells CB's, maybe give them a call and see if they have any ideas. I don't see how the device itself could translate indiscernable and noisy audio into a readable display. If something could be capable of such a thing, I'd hate to think what it would cost. It seems to me that there'd have to be someone translating the signal and converting it for you. IDK.

I've asked around a bunch of places, including the local truck stops and some say they do know some hearing impaired drivers... but they aren't aware of how they are communicating over the CB. :doah:

I knew a girl at work who is deaf but still speaks very well and she has a pilot's license and a small plane. I haven't seen her in a while since she works in another building but when I asked around for her, I found out she left the company.:doah:

I've just about given up... I have this feeling that this so-called black box translator doesn't exist so I'm gonna forget about the CB and stick to sign language, email, and instant messaging. :doah: I guess I'm SOL if I get out of range of a connection.

Well , I do know they make a morse code box that displays what it sees on a 2 line screen , and takes keyboard input and makes morse code to transmit .

So I doubt it would be a good mobile solution , since two of us I have been wheeling with have licenses , and only one of us ( not me ) has a good grasp on code , but eventually when you get a place to stay permanantly , we can at least talk at night if you got your license :thumb:
