the offroad club i joined wants me to have a cb in my k5. ive had em in trucks all my life but i was wondering where in a k5 everyone puts them and whats the best place way to mount a 102 inch whip on a blazer? i was thinking back fender area on the passenger side but i dont want it to look bad

We have mounted them just in front of the center console or even inside console or on center part of the front bench in a truck. Also under the dash at center point if you drive an auto. I would tell you to stay away from up high as if it comes loose it seems to always hit the driver in the head.

As far as 102's I had them installed on a 69 bronc and they where about 6" forward of tailgate and mid span of rear fender/section. Once they where tuned I had about 10-15 miles of coverage. Oh the footheater helped too.

i found a picture of one mounted in the center air vent. as i dont have ac that will work. how did ya'll route the wire through the fender? just drill a hole?

When I installed them we had a 90 degree mounting kit if I remember correctly (over twenty years ago). It had a plate for the inside and a plate for the outside with a rubber gasket that bolted through and a hole in the center for the coax wire.

I plan on installing a cb on my 73 but am currently at the teardown stage. I have been thinking about mounting it to the rear bumper or clamping one to a swing out tire carrier. I will not run the 102" anymore, I am going to use a firestick as my friends that ran them proved them to be more durable off road in the trees.

The fun part of the old 102's was we have covered drive thrus in Montana and I was really good at taking out flourescent bulbs with them.

I have never ran a whip antenna on my K5. I've always just ran a Firestik. I have mine bolted through the fender right beneath the taillights. as far as CB mounting, mine is under my ash tray bolted to the bottom of the dash. the ash tray still opens and keeps it angled up so i can see what everything is set at. heres some pictures for reference:

Exact placement I was talking about with if you drive an auto. we usually mounted them closer to the bench in a stick. Most of my buddies always built "tough trucks" and would lose the bench for buckets and then build a center console.

I am planning out a heavy custom rear bumper kinda like stormis built on his Izusu and want to intergrate my antennas into it.

How is your range with the firesticks.

Range is pretty good. It's been awhile since I wheeled and needed to use the CB. Last time I checked I got around 5-6 miles I think, but that was with a lot of obstacles in the way. They don't get a whole lot of range being mounted behind the camper like that. I mostly use it for the PA to yell at drivers that aggravate me!

im gonna have to move my center console farther back anyhow. ive got a sm465 and a 205 set up with twin sticks so i have zero room in the floor dash area. i thought about putting it IN the console but worried about hearing it. anyone have any opinions on a external speaker AND a PA being hooked up? i never could get the pa jack to work so i ran it through the external speaker jack

External speakers work fine. If you can find a cab placement you like. Radio shack has a couple different ones just for cbs that sound pretty good. Way against the law up here to run a pa.

I like the ash tray latch.

I've got mine mounted to the passenger side of my rear bumper... i went to a junk car lot and got a mounting bracket off of an old cj5. just drilled holes through the side of the bumper and bolted the bracket on.

I love the ashtray ignition. You just need to lose the key and install on of those fighter jet switches with a push button start like one of those high dollar euro cars.

Oh oh and some paddle shifters for the transfer case... can you put three paddles on a steering column?

i fured id run the wire under the carpet to behind my dash for the external speaker and put the radio itself in the center console. we get away with PA's in GA 99.9 percent of the cops dont care about lift and all on trucks unless your part of the small group near me running 46s and solid axle swaps that drive stupid in town and push people off the road and scare citizens. they get busted...alot

Don't get me wrong. We don't have emissions checks and most lifts and mods are ok on 99% of the vehicles here until you do piss off a cop then it is just one more reason for them to mess with you. Not only ticket you but can impound the rig if they deem it a nuisance. Mostly city cops, half the sheriff around here do the same thing. City cops usually have chips on their shoulders. At least around here.

Are you going to put the speaker in a vent location on the dash?
