CB radio

The steel whip is the best performance, but it can be a pain while navigating the urban world. It just depends on where you go.
Yes some tie theirs down, but I think that is a pain. Just depends on your preference on performance vs convenience.

I usually keep both of my 102's tied down, On the silver Dodge Its mounted on the rear bumper and I have a little bungee hooked to the front stake pocket that I can keep it hooked to.

On the Blazer The antenna is mounted on the front of the bed and I have a little metal hook on the back of the bed that I can tuck the antenna under,

Also, you have to have a spring on your antenna if you want to tie it down.

Alright, the question is where to mount it...

Stayed under $200 including shipping
Uniden 980 SSB radio
Hustler 102" whip
Mounty ball thingy
Springy whippy thingy
coaxial cabley

Bastard, I want a 980. Basically just since it's an SSB radio.

I assume this is going in El Square? As long as it's not an absolute plain jane Custom Deluxe (Like mine) You can mount it overhead and hide all the wiring easily.

For a ballmount, You can put that anywhere you canfind a flat surface.

Yep, El Square. Mines a Scottsdale, but no head liner. Dont like the mic cord flopping anyways.
The 980 was only $20 more than the 880, and only $30 more than the last radio I had. It was ok. Antennae sucked, so definitely upgraded that.
Sounds like its 7.25" square, so fairly small footprint.

Like I said, I traded for my 880 Second hand, even though it had never been on.

Headliner isn't required, all you'd need would be the little metal trim piece that goes above the windshield. I don't mind the floppy mic cord, but in all honesty you genuinely don't notice it after a couple days. However, when your bouncing your way up a solid mud road, and you drop the whole passenger side of the truck into a rut, and the mic finds it's way out of it's holder and smacks you in the face, it's annoying.

Just out of curiosity, what was your old radio?

Yeah that mic cord would piss me off fast off road, so it will go down low somewhere

It was a Uniden like the 520xl, but had a wx band. Cant seem to find the same model. Decent working, probably work a lot better with the 102".
Wasnt very loud though, hence why i will drive this one through the stereo, gain permitting.

If you have an input jack on your stereo,or a cassette player, and the CB has an external speaker jack or PA speaker jack, maybe you can patch cord it to your stereo,or use a FM transmitter to get it to play through the vehicles speakers..?

That's what I was trying to convey /\.
Sorry if it wasn't clear

Should work fine I think. Guess I will test it and post back up
