The CB Shop used to be out by Johnson's Corner. Now they are in Loveland proper. I've gotten a lot good info from them over the years. They can also tune the antenna and all that good stuff too.

Good to know. Had a uniden in the k5. Ok, not a lot of range but wx band.

Looking to upgrade from there

Oh, It's worth mentioning that both the 880 and the 29LX have multi-channel weatherband and weather alerts.

Not s huge jump on price either. The last uniden I had purchased was $80.
Do a decent radio at ~$120 is fine

I currently have a Midland Shitbox 1000, and it sucks. I'm considering getting the Uniden Bearcat 880 as @The Griff mentioned earlier. I already have a fiberglass Firestik antenna mounted to my rear bumper. I get the impression from other posts that a lot of folks don't like fiberglass antennas. What problem is there with them? Is it just a personal preference, or is there a genuine issue? Anyone else recommend the Uniden Bearcat?

I prefer the steel whip antennas because they usually have better range and quality, and they are less prone to breaking off at the sight of a low hanging branch.

If I had to go with a fiberglass antenna, I'd say a 4 foot Firestik with a spring would be your best bet.


Most people that have fiberglass antennas just have them to look cool. Half of them won't even have a radio on the other end.
Atleast thats the norm around here.
