i need to change out the turn signal/wiper stalk on the steering column. Whats involved? anyone have simple instructions

Yank it straight out.

Cruise control or no? If cruise more involved since the wires are attached to it. In that case get one of the later stalks (like S10's used) that has the wire connector at the stalk instead of at the base of the column.

yea mine has cruise control
Pull the cover off the bottom of the steering column and find the wire that is hooked to the turn signal lever. Unplug it and tie a wire to it and pull the wire up through the column. Tie new lever cable to the wire and fish it back down through column and plug it in.

Cruise plug is an odd quite small 4 pin(?) setup that one half is basically an old school printed circuit board. As stated, its at the bottom of the column.

This why I mentioned getting a later stalk, it would need to be from a wrecking yard so you have the column side of the connector. You just cut the wires off the old stalk when you yank it from the column, solder the new stalks column side plug to those wires, and connect it to the new stalk. Stick it back into the column, done.

It's not particularly hard to fish the old style through the column, but it takes no dis assembly to get the new stalk, and retrofit it.

ive already got the new stalk from LMC,,no junk yards where i moved too anyways...

Thanks for the video..and replies. looks like most of the time is running the wire. I was worried id have to put the wheel off, etc.

There are TONS of step by steps for this online.

Follow this one as far as you need to, and then tighten your tilt up while you are in there.

Tightening half the tilt bolts will help, but buy the pivot puller for $10 at the part store, and tighten/threadlock them all :)

I shouldnt have to pull the wheel, isnt it just a matter of yanking the stalk out and fishing wires?

WEll that was a dud..followed instructions, wire seperated inside the column, ended up pulling the old connector off the end of the old stalk, so its stuck somewhere inside the column. No way was going to get the new wire down thru there, apparently its just for Cruise anyways, which I dont use, so i may order a more correct stalk that doesnt have CC on it. Anyways, that wasnt the problem anyhow.

When I put my wipers on, the washer spraying automatically comes on, this isnt right. thought it might be the stalk. so its either something in the column on the wiper motor itself which ive replaced once before.

ideas?

FIXED ***..wish I had thought about this before messing with the turn signal stalk..there is a cover on the wiper/washer motor, I removed the cover and it has alot of the moving parts for the delay and washer pump. I sprayed contact electronic cleaner all in there and that fixed the problem. So, keep this in mind kiddies, if you have a problem like I did - Washer will spray any time wiper is on.
